Letter from the Administration
Dear Saint Theresa School families,

Spring weather has finally arrived! And with our April break behind us, it will seem as if the school year shifts into over-drive. There are lots of events on the calendar for Saint Theresa. Here are a few that are coming up fast:

The Spring Band Concert is scheduled for Monday, May 16th at 6:30 pm.  Although the concert this year will feature the band students only, all classmates and parents are welcome to attend. It promises to be a wonderful event.

The Annual Saint Theresa Awards Night will take place on Monday, May 23rd  at 6:30 pm.  We have wanted to be receptive and responsive to parent feedback over the years; thus our awards night will follow a slightly different format this year.  Within the middle school especially, not every student will receive an award and some of the program will be trimmed down. As we get closer to May 23rd, more details will follow on this important event.

Our Home School Association elections were held this past Monday night.  Our thanks to all parents who have offered to serve our school as officers.

The Talent Show is scheduled for May 26th at 1:30 pm. We look forward to seeing our talented students share their wonderful skills and gifts.

Best,
Kerry Stratton
Scholarship Awards
Families who received an award from the Bishop's Scholarship will have their 2016-2017 tuition adjusted to reflect the award.

Families who received a letter of award from the CEO Foundation of CT should bring the letter to the office to be signed and copied for the bookkeeper. Tuition will be adjusted once the school receives the confirmation letter from CEO.

Please note that scholarships for financial aid will be honored only after all current tuition is paid in full.

Home School Association Election Results
This past Monday evening the elections were held for the HSA Executive Officers. We welcome our new officers!

Co-President
Joining Sue Turotsy as Co-President is Adriana Nunes. She is originally from São Paulo- Brazil.
She has two daughters at St Theresa, Sofia Nunes in Kindergarten and Julia Nunes in Second grade. This is her 3rd year in this great school and she couldn't be happier with her choice of enrolling her kids at St Theresa because of the outstanding services provided to all of us.

Adrianna is honored to serve as Co-President of H.S.A. and she will be an asset to the school.  Adriana will be a wonderful help to the Brazilian families of our community, which have been growing considerably every year, to be more involved in our events and consequently, increase the number of parents working together to benefit our school.

Co-Vice President
Our thanks to Joann Quinde who is our new HSA Co-Vice President.  Joann's daughter, Natalia Crumb, is a 3rd grader here at St Theresa and they love it. She hopes to help H.S.A. in all ways possible, whether it's continuing skate night, walk-a-thon, or starting a new fundraiser that will bring all kids together. During her college years she worked closely with the activities committee and helped organize trips to 6 flags after graduation, which 10 years later they still do the trip today. She would like to be part of the H.S.A. so she can work closely with all parents and be their voice of reasoning and concerns on what their child's wants or needs are.

Treasurer
We welcome Melissa Nunez as the HSA Treasurer. Melissa is the former assessment treasurer from 2010-2015. She is the Assistant Cheer coach. She has served as past Walk a thon and Halloween party committees and room mom.  Melissa has been at St. Theresa school since 2006 with Jillian grade 7 , Jason 4, Justin 1.

She has a degree in Economics from Fairfield University and a background in corporate financial planning and analysis.

Our thanks to these new officers and all those who serve our school!

And the Band Plays On
It is with great excitement that we announce that three St. Theresa Band students will be attending the 2016 Connecticut Future Musicians All-State Music Festival starting on March 4th in Manchester, CT.  These three students earned their eligibility through nomination for the Region Festival in October, and through successful audition in January for participation in the Symphonic or Concert Bands.  Luka Silva and Jack Donofrio will participate in the Concert Band which is conducted in part by St. Theresa's own Mr. Daniel Brownell.  Luka Silva was a new-comer to the Region/All-State Band scene this year, and after an impressive debut with the Region Band, scored the top Alto Saxophone chair in Concert Band.  Jack Donofrio, in his second year participating in Region/All-State, dramatically improved from last year and sits in the top echelon of the Concert Band clarinet section.  The third participant is Jillian Nunez, now in her fourth year of participation.  She has participated in the Concert and Symphonic Bands, and after scoring in the middle tiers of the Symphonic Band last year, she scored the highest percussion score in throughout the entire Connecticut Future Musicians program and will sit as the principal chair in Symphonic Band.  Congratulations to these students! After a performance on March 19th at Central Connecticut State University, they will perform again on May 23rd at Lincoln Center in New York City and then again on May 27th at the Old State House in Hartford.

In addition to our music scholars, a number of Advanced Band students have served as teaching assistants this year.  This includes sitting in and helping with Cadet and/or Intermediate lessons, and sitting in on Intermediate Band rehearsals back in the fall before they were promoted to the Advanced Band.  In the spring they continue to assist the younger students when their academic schedules allow, including running sectionals in Advanced Band and assisting on lessons.  These students have been afforded the opportunity to conduct the Advanced Band on one of our concerts as the opportunities are available.  These students are: Jillian Nunez, Jack Donofrio, Lucas Gelmetti, Jim McMahon, Ryan Cannone, Samantha Guilmant, and Deaglan Prendergast.

Join us May 16, 2016 at 7 pm for the Band Concert!
The Fourth Grade Representatives at our State Capitol
The fourth graders had the opportunity to visit the Sate Capitol, Legislative Office Building, and the State Supreme Court on April 19. They were welcomed by State Representative Rutigliano, who took a photo with the class. Each student received a copy of the photo as a memento of the trip. It was a great experience! I hope that their time spent there inspired them to go back and participate in the legislative process in the future.

Welcome to the Fourth Grade Staff Interviews!
Parish Bulletin Advertising Opportunity
As you may or may not know, our Parish has a weekly bulletin which features all the important weekly Parish news and daily Mass schedules.
The bulletin has an ad page on the back comprised of local businesses, many of them Parishioner owned.  The revenue from these ads allows St Theresa to receive free shipping and printing each week as well as share in the ad proceeds.

If you are a business owner, self-employed, a contractor, in the legal or medical profession would you please consider supporting the weekly bulletin by placing an ad?  The ads are priced as such that in most cases these advertisers see a tangible return on the investment
they make in advertising their business.

We also can accept sponsor ads for "In memory of (a loved one)" which can be adorned with a Rose or simply a "Complements of (Individual or a family name)"
The Sales Rep for the bulletin is Joe Trovarelli, Jr. who is also a dedicated Parishioner of St Theresa's.  You can contact Joe directly at 203-650-9770 (cell) or via email at jtrovarelli@4lpi.com .  Please call for ad rates & space availability.
We thank you in advance for your consideration and continued support of St Theresa's weekly bulletin.

We ask that you also continue to support our current sponsor advertisers, many of whom have been on for years and let them know you saw their ad in the bulletin.
