Be Curious!
Trying something new can be a great way to learn about new styles of wines and your local region. Try a recommendation from someone at your local store. Many will have a shelf talking card pinned next to a wine with a description and suggested pairing.
Be adventurous! If you typically gravitate towards dry wines sample a new type of wine like a fruit style or mead that is done in a dry style. It may be the best wine that you have ever had!

Winning Wines of Niagara Wine Trail USA

Last week we featured our winning red vinifera wines. Now we are paying homage to the great white grapes you'll find in our region!

Highly Rated White Wines:

The Beverage Tasting Institute (BTI) awarded Black Willow Winery in 2015 gold medal, exceptional 90 point rating and "best buy" for their Chardonnay . Their honey wine (mead), Odin's Nectar, also has a high rating of 90 points and was named the "2015 Meadery of the Year" by the NY International Wine Competition.

Ice Wines are a popular delicacy and our region is one of only a few places in the world they can be produced. Many wineries have won acclaim for their Vidal Blanc ice wine. Schulze Vineyards & Winery, Niagara Landing Wine Cellars, and Leonard Oakes Estate Winery all have earned golds - and in some cases double gold, best in class awards! - over the years for their liquid treasure.

This year at the Florida State Fair International Wine Competition, Black Willow Winery and Niagara Landing Wine Cellars both took home prestigious gold medals: Black Willow's winning  Classic Diamond, and Niagara Landing's popular Rosebud Gold . In past years, Honeymoon Trail Winery's Diamond wine has won gold at the competition too.

But not all white wines are made from grapes!  The Winery at Marjim Manor specializes in wines made from fruit. Their A Pear Made in Heaven fruit wine won a gold medal from the American Wine Society.

But the list does not end here. Visit our Awards page for more winning wines, ciders and meads!
