PORT HOSTS JAPAN BUSINESS SUMMIT

The Port of Oakland was proud to host Oakland African American Chamber of Commerce's Japan Business Summit. Thank you to Deputy Consul General Nobuhiro Watanabe and special guests from the local and international business communities for participating in a rich discussion about increasing trade and business opportunities at the Port Oakland.

 

 

 
 
 
OAKLAND RUNNING FESTIVAL

At the finish line of the Oakland Running Festival, Port employees gave out 1,000 scoops of Fentons Creamery ice cream, a local Oakland business, to celebrate the runners! Nearly 40 Port employees laced-up their shoes and participated in the foot race. It was a great day for ice cream in Snow Park!

 

 

 
 
 
TURNER CONTRACTORS & SUPPLIERS EXPO

We were delighted to sponsor and participate in the 2015 Contractors and Suppliers Expo at the O. Co. Coliseum. The event featured educational resources for local contractors and tradespersons. Port staff shared business opportunities with participants. Director of Social Responsibility Amy Tharpe joined representatives from local construction firms, developers, public agencies, and technical assistance providers to local, minority and women-owned businesses, on a panel which covered the challenges and opportunities for local firms.

 

 

 
 
 
UC BERKELEY Y-PLAN LEARNS ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY

UC Berkeley Y-Plan program that engages youth in city planning, policy making, and community change, visited the Port to learn about sustainable urban planning. Port Supervising Engineer Dave Fisher gave a table top demonstration of Shorepower and Environmental Programs and Planning Assessment Supervisor Anne Whittington spoke about the Maritime Air Quality Improvement Plan and the Clean Trucks Program.  
 
PORT HOSTS LEADERSHIP OAKLAND TRANSPORTATION & ENVIRONMENT DAY

We had the pleasure of hosting the Leadership Oakland class at the Port's headquarters in Jack London Square. Speakers included Aviation Director Deborah Ale Flint , Maritime Director John C. Driscoll, and Environmental Programs and Planning Assessment Supervisor Anne Whittington. The day-long event focused on transportation and the environment with tours of the Oakland seaport and AC Transit Division 4 Maintenance Facility.

 

 

 
 

  

STANFORD GRADUATE BUSINESS SCHOOL VISITS THE PORT

The Stanford Graduate School of Business visited the Port of Oakland to learn about our business operations. Students heard from Port Executive Director Chris Lytle and the senior management team about the Port's three business lines; and they toured Oakland International Airport (OAK) and the Oakland seaport.
