FAA Administrator to Keynote AEA Convention's Opening Session
The 59th annual AEA International Convention & Trade Show, which begins today in Orlando, Florida, is the largest gathering of general aviation avionics manufacturers, distributors and government-certified repair stations in the world. It is the platform of choice for the introduction of new avionics products and services coming to the marketplace in 2016. Wednesday's opening session keynote address will be given by FAA Administrator Michael P. Huerta. The session begins at 8:30 a.m. EDT

The AEA Convention is the preeminent venue dedicated solely to the general aviation avionics industry. The event's primary focus is providing avionics professionals with educational and marketing opportunities between equipment manufacturers, distributors and government-certified repair stations. 2015 General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey
The 38th annual General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Survey is now underway. It is the Federal Aviation Administration's primary source of information about the size and activity of the general aviation and on-demand Part 135 fleet. The survey is conducted on behalf of the FAA by Tetra Tech, an independent research firm, and all survey responses are confidential. Tetra Tech would like to hear from everyone who receives an invitation to complete the survey to prepare accurate statistics on aviation activity. New FAA Course -- Applying Systems Safety Principles to Product Certification: May 17-19 and Aug. 16-18
The intent of this three-day course is to focus on how systems engineers should apply concepts of system safety principles to the products they will certify. It will expand the approach systems engineers can take to build safety into the products they certify in the context of applying the rules and considering other safety-related factors that supplement FAA regulations. Attendees will include systems engineers, flight test pilots, propulsion engineers, and human factors engineers in headquarters, directorates, and COs. GARMIN introduced enhancements to Garmin Pilot for global operators with new update bringing free global VFR flight plan filing, additional overlays to profile view and more. The company also
received EASA approval of new high-end flight deck technologies, as well as Connext and VFR Manual Charts, which are now available for the GTN 650/750 touchscreen avionics.
LATITUDE TECHNOLOGIES named

STANDARDAERO announced a strategic alliance with FDS Avionics Corp. to bring the next generation of in-flight entertainment to today's business aircraft market. The centerpiece of this collaboration is the do CAPSULE.
TRUENORTH AVIONICS said that BENDIXKING selected the company to develop the AeroWave Router, a minirouter/wireless access point for the BendixKing AeroWave 100 high-speed internet system.
JEPPESEN teamed with Bose Corp. to provide automatic audio warnings as part of its flight information solution for private pilots flying under visual flight rules -- Mobile FliteDeck VFR.
SPIRIT AERONAUTICS expanded its service authorizations to include maintenance for the Hawker 800 series (Hawker 800, 800XP and 850XP).
EAGLE CREEK AVIATION SERVICES received the AMT Diamond Award of Excellence from the FAA for participating in the Aviation Maintenance Technician Awards program. This is the fifth consecutive year that Eagle Creek Aviation Services has won this award.
DUNCAN AVIATION awarded 20 students with the Karen K. Duncan Scholarship. Each recipient receives up to $4,000 for a college education -- $1,000 per semester for up to two years. The company also recently completed a Supplemental Type Certification, which will upgrade existing Honeywell Primus radios in Hawker 800/800XP aircraft so they're ADS-B Out compliant.
FLIGHTSAFETY INTERNATIONAL delivered an Airbus A350 XWB full flight simulator to the Airbus Training Center in Miami, Florida, the the second simulator FlightSafety has delivered to the Training Center.
PENTASTAR AVIATION partnered with SmartSky Networks to develop supplemental type certificates for Gulfstream G450 and G550 aircraft.
ESTERLINE's Korry Electronics will be showcasing its LED-illuminated 5/8-inch switch -- now produced in just three days at low prices - at the AEA International Convention & Trade Show in Orlando, April 27-30.
AVMAX said its engineering division has created ADS-B Out solutions for Dash 8 and CRJ aircraft. The solutions are Part 25 STC for Dash 8-100/200/300 and CRJ 100/200/700/900; both aircraft types are approved by Transport Canada Civil Aviation Administration and the FAA, with the EASA approval pending.
ACR ELECTRONICS announced
that its complete suite of ARTEX ELTs is now available for the first time at this year's AEA Convention in Orlando.
The ARTEX ELT suite is comprised of the ELT 345, ELT 1000, ELT 3000 and the ELT 3000HM.
FREEFLIGHT SYSTEMS announced that Nebraska-based Trego-Dugan Aviation received AML STC approval for installation of a FreeFlight 1201 WAAS/GPS sensor and Garmin GTX330ES Mode S transponder in 460+ aircraft. FreeFlight Systems also announced that global aerospace, defense and transportation company Finmeccanica selected the FreeFlight RA-4500 radar altimeter as standard equipment for AW119 single-turbine light helicopters.
AVIONICA announced that Dubai-based flydubai has selected a suite of communications avionics that comprises Avionica's second-generation satellite communications system satLINK MAX, the integral miniature quick-access recorder (miniQAR), the 4G avCM module for wireless communications, the gatelink terminal Wi-Fi communications system, and the aviONS onboard server platform, with an integrated cabin Wi-Fi hotspot, for 11 Next-Generation Boeing 737 aircraft.
VECTOR AEROSPACE announced that its Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada, facility is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
ELLIOTT AVIATION announced its STC certification on an ADS-B In and Out solution for the 2002 and newer, Pro Line 21-equipped Hawker 750, 800XP, 850XP and 900XP.
ASPEN AVIONICS received a supplemental type certificate for installation of its Evolution Backup Display.
MCMURDO announced a new 10-year standard warranty on its Kannad Integra Emergency Locator Transmitters.
GULFSTREAM AEROSPACE CORP. received approval from the FAA to offer a synthetic vision upgrade to GIV-SP aircraft equipped with PlaneDeck.
GOGO BUSINESS AVIATION successfully completed the initial phase of flight testing for its Gogo Biz 4G service, marking a significant milestone in the company's development of a new generation of connectivity and enhanced capabilities for business aviation.
