ELCA 2009 graduate, Shelby Ausband
has a #1 SOLE purpose!
"pur[SHOE]ing joy" was a simple idea that came to Shelby during the wee-hours of a sleepless night in Guatemala. "She was doing some work in a small village nearby where she met a family with 10 kids, none of which were attending school. Surrounded by mud floors, holes in the ceiling and only two beds for a family of 12, she left that day feeling small, frustrated and overwhelmed. She realized the problem started with herself; she brought four pair of tennis shoes to Guatemala. We are not simply delivering a pair of shoes; we are delivering the promise of a better life. With a pair of shoes, a person can get a job, go to school, and better avoid harmful diseases. It is our mission that every person in need of a pair of shoes will have them, and have the opportunity to pursue their own joy. Founded in 2013, pur[SHOE]ing joy is based in Antigua, Guatemala seeking to fight poverty by giving shoes to those in need. We receive donations from individuals, schools, religious organizations, and simply anyone who has the ability to give." - http://purshoeingjoy.org/
"SLI (Student Leadership Institute) and Student Council members who participated in the sorting and packing of shoes truly WORKED. Shelby Ausband has dubbed them PurShoe-ing Ambassadors. The task was huge (and I mean huge), but the workers were dedicated. They sorted and boxed 7,977 pairs of shoes for shipment to Nicaragua and then bagged all of the size 9 and over men's and women's shoes for donation to homeless shelters. If you have a chance, thank the students for their efforts in sharing the good news to others." -Mrs. Hand, Student Council Sponsor

Excuse me, Mr. Gilliam, but there's something on your face...
Freshman class co-presidents, Mallory Armstrong and Caris Wright represented the freshman class with the privilege of pie-ing Mr. Gilliam in the face. Ninth graders succeeded in collecting the most canned goods in the recent Canned Food Drive benefiting the "Helping in His Name" food pantry. High school student council members led the challenge for each class to contribute canned goods. The class with the most donations earned the right to pie a certain school administrator. Mallory says she wasn't intimidated by her role and added, "I'm just glad all the hard work paid off!"
The following administrators had their "face" on the line in this friendly competition.
Senior Administrator - Mrs. George
Junior Administrator - Mr. Allen
Sophomore Administrator - Mr. Campbell
Freshman Administrator - Mr. Gilliam
Middle School Administrator - Mr. Simpson
Even though Mr. Gilliam was the "loser" in this situation, everyone was a winner for participating in this worthwhile mission!

November was filled with lots of thankfulness and celebration!
Kindergarten students welcomed a special visitor, Gwyn Newman, a Native American from the Odawa tribe who told them all about food, clothing, love of nature and animals. Mrs. Dorsey made a class display of all their little "Pilgrims and Indians."
Pre-K3 students enjoyed a Thanksgiving Feast on November 19.

A small shoebox can have a big impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal. Be a part of changing children's lives all over the world in Jesus' Name through the power of a simple gift with Operation Christmas Child.
The ministries of ELCA and Eagle's Landing First Baptist Church set a very challenging goal of collecting 5000 shoeboxes this year. We are proud to report that 5009 shoeboxes were collected! ELCA's elementary students contributed 390 boxes, middle school donated 509, and high school students brought 1744 shoeboxes for a total of 2643.

Chick-fil-A Family Fun Nights with a Purpose
Paul White (Owner/Operator) and Lana DeLay (Restaurant Marketing Director) from the Chick-fil-A on Eagle's Landing Parkway delivered 30 shoeboxes to ELCA in support of the Samaritan's Purse program, Operation Christmas Child.
Mrs. DeLay challenged each of the staff teams at the Eagle's Landing Chick-fil-A to bring in items to fill shoeboxes. As the items were collected, they were sorted by age group, boy/girl, etc. . Over the past few weeks on Family Fun Nights, held on Tuesday evenings, children from the community filled shoeboxes with the items from the collection bins. Some of the parents of the kids gave the $7 for the handling costs and then Eagle's Landing Chick-fil-A donated the rest of the costs along with purchasing the remaining items needed to fill the boxes. The decision was then made to donate their 30 boxes to help ELCA and ELFBC meet our goal of collecting 5000 shoeboxes for this mission.

ELEMENTARY CHORUS NEWS
The fall program, "God So Loved the World," was presented by second graders on Wednesday, November 19.
The students sang songs about God's love for each one of us. God's love is indescribable, uncontainable, powerful, untamable...He is an amazing God.
Twenty-four students were speakers, and 20 students led several of the songs.
One of the songs sung was, "Let Us Pray". The lyrics...let us pray, let us pray, everywhere and every way, every moment of the day it is the right time. For the Father above, He is listening in love, and He wants to answer us, so let us pray...remind us that no matter how busy we are, we should ALL stop and pray. God is waiting to hear from us.
- K3, K4, & K5 students will be presenting a Christmas program on Wednesday, December 17 (during pre-school Chapel time); 8:15-8:45. The title of the program is, "Call Him Jesus."
- 5th grade Chorus members will be presenting a Christmas program on Wednesday, December, 17 (during Elementary Chapel time); 1:45-2:30. The title of the program is, "Out of the Box."

Support ELCA & Save on Your Taxes
Did you know that in 2008 the Georgia General Assembly passed a law that allows both individuals and corporations to re-direct their Georgia tax dollars? Taxes that you owe to the State of Georgia may be re-directed to the Georgia Goal Scholarship Program to support the private or Christian school of your choice. These funds are used to assist families with a demonstrated financial need to attend or remain at ELCA. The law also provides families the opportunity to gain a tax benefit on federal taxes. Would you join other ELCA families who are already choosing to re-direct their tax dollars contributing to Georgia GOAL? Reservations are being taken now for 2015 and it is anticipated that each of these credits will be claimed by mid-December. Please contact ELCA Director of Development, Al Hosford, at (678)818-1031 to learn more about this program.

FROM ONE HEART TO ANOTHER
Fifth grade students partnered with an orphanage in Uganda during missions month. Students donated candy and rubber bands for bracelets and made goodie bags for the 108 orphans at the Lulwanda Children's Home. Each goodie bag was accompanied by a personal, encouraging hand-made card meant to brighten a child's day.

Mr. Simpson's 6th grade students received an unusual assignment...
An avalanche of 82 "Pet Rocks" were deposited into Mr. Simpson's 6th Grade Earth Science classroom on Tuesday December 2nd. Each student was required to find, name, and give a personality to their rock. In addition, they had to write a 500-850 word story on their rock's life experiences throughout the rock cycle. Some of the rocks were born as magma, went to school, work, or on a mission trip in the igneous stage; played pro sports, flew to the moon, fought wars, or joined a band in the sedimentary stage; and got married, or became cheerleaders or actresses in the metamorphic stage. This project allowed the students to have fun and compile their knowledge on minerals, rocks, and weathering before they took their first semester science exam. The creativity of the Class of 2021 really ROCKS!!
