ELCA Connect Credit Recovery can help!

The 2014-2015 ELCA Connect High School Credit Recovery program makes it possible for students to repeat a course that was not academically successful the first time taken. These courses are taken online with a certified online teacher. Enrolled students are required to take all module tests and exams at ELCA in a proctored setting.

High School Credit Recovery courses may be taken during the school year in conjunction with the student's traditional academic classes or taken during the summer.

High School Credit Recovery courses are NCAA approved because they are NOT abbreviated courses. Enrolled students take the entire course over again. Semester courses have a minimum enrollment period of 10 weeks and yearlong courses have a minimum enrollment period of 20 weeks.

KUDOS for Fine Arts

Congratulations to Clay Smith, Callan Russell, and Brian Tirado, on being selected to perform with the 2015 GMEA All State Symphonic Band! Callan was 3rd chair trombone, Brian was 1st chair Baritone Saxophone, and Clay was 9th chair trumpet. These students competed with students from all public and private schools in the state of GA. This is a tremendous accomplishment for these students!

Congratulations to Clay Smith, Callan Russell, Brian Tirado, Collin Hamby and Stephen McMurry on being selected to participate in the prestigious UGA High School Band Festival, Janfest. This festival is by invitation to the most accomplished high school band students in the state. We applaud these students' dedication to excellence!

(Q&A from State of School)

Uniform resales in December and January were a huge success. Thanks so much for the donations and the wonderful volunteers who helped out. All money raised goes right back into the classroom needs at ELCA.

Christmas Shoppe was a wonderful week! The students really enjoyed shopping for their loved ones and the volunteers really stepped up. Thank you so much to all the volunteers that came to help set up, assist the kids with shopping, work at the wrapping station and the clean up process. Our goal was met, and once again, 100% of all money raised, through the PTF Christmas Shoppe, goes directly into the classrooms at ELCA!

Teacher appreciation week is coming up February 2-6, with a luncheon for our wonderful teachers on February 5, from 12-1:00 P.M. If you are an elementary parent, more information will be coming from your room parent. We will need volunteers to cover the classrooms, so the faculty can enjoy their lunch. If you are a middle school parent, feel free to contact Melissa Smith, at [email protected], to volunteer. Volunteers are always needed to help with various needs that week, including set up and serving at the luncheon. Contact any member of the PTF for more information, on ways you can help.

The position of PTF High School Chair is still open. If you are a high school parent, who is interested in filling the position, please contact Chuck Ekstedt at [email protected]. The primary role is to communicate information from ELCA events, PTF events to the high school parents.

PERHAPS YOU CAN HELP...

Eagle's Landing Christian Academy will host its First Annual Mock Job Interview Fair on March 2-3, 2015 in the theater room.  The administrators, staff, and students are excited about this opportunity, and our students are working diligently to prepare for this event!

We need your help!  We are searching for professionals to serve as volunteer interviewers.  We welcome your participation in this event and hope that you will be able to join us.  If possible, we are asking that interviewers stay from 8:00 - 1:30.

If you are interested and available for only a portion of that time, we welcome your participation as well.

As an interviewer, you can volunteer one or both days.  Interviews for each ELCA student will last approximately 10-20 minutes and be generic in content.  Volunteer interviewers are invited to join us for lunch in our school lunchroom.

We are looking forward to a great event and hope that you are able to help us by volunteering as an interviewer.  If you are able to help, simply email, fax, or mail the flyer to my attention at Eagle's Landing Christian Academy.  Please indicate the day(s) and times you will be able to interview on the form and I will contact you with a confirmation of your interview schedule.

Thank you very much for helping to prepare our students and ensure their success as they transition from school to work!

What's up in Preschool?

Our K3 and K4 Preschool students are always

experiencing something new and exciting!

In November, students had a visit from a Native American named Cheyenne!  We learned about the Native Americans and how they played a part in the First Thanksgiving.  Everyone enjoyed listening to Cheyenne and even participated in some Native American dances. Cheyenne works for a company called Character Lines.

Preschool students also enjoyed celebrating Thanksgiving with a feast in their classrooms. Good food was shared and the preschoolers dressed for the occasion!  Everyone shared things they were thankful for and all were reminded of the many blessing God has given to us!

The Christmas season was also an exciting time with gingerbread houses, candy sleighs, reading The Christmas Story, and dressing like reindeer...just some of the festivities that were enjoyed throughout the month!  Our Christmas program with the Kindergarten class was the highlight as we shared with family and friends the true meaning of Christmas!

Lacrosse moves into new territory

ELCA Lacrosse will begin its first season as a varsity program with their opening practice on January 26th.  With thirteen of their eighteen games scheduled against AAAAA and AAAAAA schools this promises to be an exciting and challenging season.  If any high school boys are interested in playing please see Coach King in room 256 to join this program.

Science for EVERYONE

We are always excited in the elementary area when Mr.  Michael Green with Science for Everyone, Inc., joins us for a special presentation of a unique science and technology program.  Science for Everyone stimulates the students by increasing their interest through this interactive science presentation.   They are encouraged to question and answer...to explore and discover...to think critically...and to imagine endless possibilities along the way.

Mr. Green is the President and CEO of Science for Everyone and is a passionate educator and enthusiastic speaker.  The students love the approach he uses with them as he shows his audience that science can be fun and interesting.  He uses the approach that hands-on learning means the students' minds will focused.  Simply put, Science for Everyone is ILLUMINATION FOR THE IMAGINATION!

How Resource-full!

Students! Did you know about the K-12 Student Technology Resources webpage found on the ELCA Website? It may be found under the Student tab or at www.elcaonline.org/techresources

MENTAL MATHletes Strike Again

Third, fourth, and fifth grade students competed in ELCA's fourth Mental Math Challenge on December 5, 2014. It was a great competition, very close! The winners from all four challenges competed in a Semester Challenge on January 15, 2015, to determine a Semester Champion for each grade. We invite you to the next challenge on February 5. We challenge you to try and keep up with these students!

ARTISTIC ADVENTURES

On Tuesday, December 2, the Art II and AP Art classes visited the High Museum in Atlanta and viewed the featured exhibit of "Cezanne and the Modern," "Make A Joyful Noise," "Gordon Parks: Segregation Story," as well as several other temporary and ongoing exhibitions. Those attending were AP Art students: Ross Almario, Brie Collier, Evan Justus, GiGi Pennell, Zane Thompson, Evan Williams, Amy Yang.  Art II students:  Ali Austin, Baylee Holder, Alec Sapp, Chloe Slafka, Bear Di, Sara Edge, Lauren Harrison, Erin Helton, Marissa Klakis, Kenneth Lomax-McCullough, Breanna Rogers, Katie Southern, Aaron Williams.  Chaperones were Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. Batchelor, and Coach Batchelor.  A special "Thank You" to Coach Batchelor who also served as our bus driver.  It was a beautiful day and a wonderful experience for all.

Also, in December, Mrs. Batchelor read the children's story "The Manger Mouse" to her high school Accountability Group students. They finished the session with making (yummy) mice of their own.

Bridging the Gap and Reaching Out

Each Wednesday, Mrs. Daily's 8th grade homeroom accompanies her to preschool chapel and helps with the K3, K4 and Kindergarten classes. In December her students brought in goodies and put together "Happy Birthday Jesus Party Mix" bags. The older students then delivered them to the younger students' classrooms. Silver Kisses were used to symbolize the angels that worshiped Jesus, Rolos for the wise men and candy canes for the shepherds.

The Varsity Wrestling Team

defended their Area Championship for the third time in a row at home on Saturday in dominating fashion. Every ELCA wrestler pinned their FPD opponent in the finals, racking up 54 points, after dispatching with Pacelli earlier in the day. This qualifies them for the State Duals in Macon this week. The #5 ranked Chargers will square off against #4 Trion at 8am on Friday at the Centreplex.

The Wrestlerettes did a fabulous job keeping everything running smoothly!

Follow them on Twitter and also on Instagram.
