The Great American Beach Party
The Great American Beach party returns on Saturday, May 28 on A1A and Las Olas Boulevard.
The free, family-friendly party takes place from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The Great American Beach Party features a complete day full of exciting activities and entertainment featuring live bands, a kids zone, DJ, sand castle contest, art show, classic car show, life-size beach games, tribute to the U.S. Armed Forces, and so much more!

Give Input on Proposed Seawall Ordinance Changes
The existing ordinance sets a maximum elevation for all new seawalls at five and one-half (5½) feet above NGVD29, except when the adjacent property is higher than five and one-half (5½) feet above the NGVD29 (3.90 feet NAVD88).
The proposed ordinance:
- Adds definitions for seawall and for North American Vertical Datum (NAVD88);
- Sets a minimum seawall elevation at 4.6 feet NAVD88 (0.7 feet; 8.4 inches above the current maximum allowable elevation)
- Sets an allowable maximum height of the seawall based on a property's base flood elevation;
- Requires seawall reconstruction to the minimum elevation if the substantial repair threshold is triggered;
- Requires maintaining seawalls in good repair;
- Addresses fixed and floating docks; and
- Sets a date by which all seawalls must meet the minimum elevation requirement (March 1, 2035).

Financing Available for Property Upgrades
The City Commission recently unanimously approved joining the Clean Energy Green Corridor, a Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program that makes up-front financing available to residential and commercial properties for energy efficient, climate resilient, and wind-resistance products.
PACE programs assist residents and business owners in reducing their carbon footprint and energy costs and also assist in stimulating the local economy through creating construction jobs. Examples of potential PACE improvements include: energy-efficient cooling systems, roofing repairs, solar panels and impact-resistant windows.
The Clean Energy Green Corridor is operated by Ygrene Energy Fund Florida and includes 37 municipalities in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Alachua Counties. The Clean Energy Green Corridor offers a comprehensive turnkey solution for City property owners and has demonstrated substantial success in funding improvements in the Southeast Florida area.

Waterway Soirée Set For May 21
The second annual Waterway Soirée, one of Fort Lauderdale's signature events, will take place on Saturday, May 21 from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Bahia Mar Resort & Yachting Center.
The unique affair is an unforgettable and chic evening dockside at Bahia Mar aboard one of many luxurious private yachts, with guests savoring custom-prepared dishes from South Florida's finest restaurants and mingling with celebrities against a breathtaking backdrop.
Following dinner, guests will embark on a festive party yacht for an Intracoastal Waterway cruise with an open bar, dessert and dancing to live music and DJ.
Attendees will include celebrity guests, yachting enthusiasts, members of the marine industry and prominent community and business leaders.

City of Fort Lauderdale to Chlorinate Water System Starting May
10, 2016
The City of Fort Lauderdale will temporarily return to using free chlorine in its drinking water system. This regularly scheduled preventive maintenance procedure will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2016 and will end at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016.
Free chlorination is a common practice for water systems using combined chlorine disinfection. The chlorination period is anticipated to be transparent to water customers; however, some may notice a slight change in the taste or smell of their tap water.
Some customers may also see water running from fire hydrants in their neighborhoods, which is part of the normal maintenance process.
This procedure will affect the City of Fort Lauderdale, as well as Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Port Everglades, Village of Sea Ranch Lakes, Wilton Manors, and sections of the Town of Davie, Oakland Park, and Tamarac (east of State Road 7/441).
The City of Fort Lauderdale maintains the highest standards to ensure clean, high quality drinking water is delivered to its customers. The City's drinking water meets all federal, state, and local drinking water quality standards.

38th Annual Community Appearance Awards

The Community Appearance Awards are presented each year to encourage aesthetic awareness and to acknowledge individuals and organizations who are working to enhance, improve and beautify the Fort Lauderdale community.
Community Appearance Awards recognize homeowners, architects, landscapers and developers for their individual efforts to enhance the City's visual image and economic vitality.
Neighborhood associations are recognized for projects that positively affect the area of the association. Since the program's inception in 1978, hundreds of commercial buildings, office towers, residences, and landscape improvements have been nominated for awards.
Sponsorship of the program comes from the community in the form of corporate and private donations, as well as from the City of Fort Lauderdale.

New Sea Turtle signs to educate beach goers
The Sea Turtle Conservancy has awarded Broward County a grant to create and install permanent informational sea turtle signs at heavily-used public beach access location.
The signs, to be installed later this month will be a helpful source of information and will promote safe sea turtle practices.
Florida's beaches are especially important to loggerhead sea turtles. They serve as nesting grounds for approximately 80 percent of the global population and 90 percent of the US population. Green sea turtles concentrate their nesting activity along the southeast coast of Florida. Leatherbacks, the rarest species of sea turtle, nest almost exclusively on the east coast of Florida. Broward's beaches support vital nesting grounds for all three species.

It's no secret that our community is thriving! Job growth is steady, unemployment is down, and the private sector continues to invest in our community. In fact, last month the City's Department of Sustainable Development (DSD) received more than 2,350 permit applications and issued permits that represent more than $117 million in construction. With all that activity, DSD can get quite busy, so we've created an express lane in our lobby to cut down on wait time. The express lane expedites drop off and pick up and can be used to submit revisions, pay for permits, and update contractor licenses. Wait times in the express lanes are typically under ten minutes, so our neighbors so get in, get out, and get on with their day. National Day of Prayer - Thursday, May 5
The City of Fort Lauderdale invites you to attend the annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 5 from noon - 2:00 pm in the City Hall First Floor Commission Chambers, located at 100 N. Andrews Avenue. The event will be led by Ms. Daphne Creary and will feature numerous participating ministers and vocalists. The National Day of Prayer was established in 1952 by President Harry S.
