Certified Rescue News

Michigan Certified Rescue organizations represent a wide range of specialization and expertise in the rescue world. They have saved countless numbers of pets directly from shelters, have prevented many from entering shelters, and have been the catalyst for thousands of happy 
adoption stories.  Run almost entirely by committed, compassionate volunteers, we can't let April go by without thanking them, as well as thanking those of you who work with ANY rescue group or animal shelter.  

Most of the groups need more foster families and volunteers, and have weekly or monthly adoption events at convenient locations. Check their individual websites for details. 

The groups all have a variety of fundraisers each year to support the great work that they do. Several coming up in April and May are:

The Society of Animal Welfare Administrators, SAWA , will be holding their 2016 conference in Detroit from June 15-17 at the Renaissance Center.  It is an honor for Detroit to be hosting this national conference. 

SAWA is a national professional network of directors and administrators of humane organizations that develops and promotes industry best practices, cultivates collaboration, and provides educational opportunities for members.

Humane Lobby Day 2016

May 17 is the date for this year's Humane Lobby Day to be held at the state capitol in Lansing from 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.  The event is sponsored by HSUS and Puppy Mill Awareness of SE Michigan.

Join animal advocates from throughout the state to let your elected officials know what is important to you relating to animal welfare legislation. The day includes prep on issues affecting Michigan's animals and lobbying tips for getting stronger laws passed.

Jill Fritz, HSUS's Michigan State Director, has been instrumental in planning Humane Lobby Days, as well as advocating for Michigan's animal welfare issues on behalf of HSUS. She has recently accepted a position as Deputy Director for Wildlife at HSUS and will be moving to the Washington DC area. Congratulations to Jill. We appreciate all that she has done for the animals of Michigan and wish her well in her future endeavors.
