Men and Women of Distinction Announced
Thirty students, who have distinguished themselves and are representative of the top scholars at Fullerton College, will be honored at the annual Men and Women of Distinction awards banquet on Friday, May 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the College Center Dining Hall.

Umoja Center Open House
Umoja is hosting an Open House of its new center on Tuesday, April 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Building 500, Room 513. Coffee with the Trustees and Chancellor
Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the upcoming "coffees" with the NOCCCD Board of Trustees and Chancellor. These are open discussions where the community can ask questions or just listen to conversation. No topic of relevance to the district is off limits - budget, funding, projects, issues in and out of the classroom, etc. Upcoming "coffees" will be: April 28 at 10 a.m. at Cypress College, CC Complex, Room 414; May 2, at 3:30 p.m. at Fullerton College in Rooms 224-228, and on May 3 at 3 p.m. at the Anaheim Campus in Rooms 105-107.

Rescue Robotics Team Wins 1st Place
On April 15 to 17, the Rescue Robotics Team took first place in Overall Design Review and first place in Aerial Design during the Fifth annual Vital Link STEM & the Arts Career Showcase Rescue Robotics Competition.

Horticulture Department's 2016 Spring Plant Sale
Choice plants, made possible by the hard work of student interns; a selection of California native and drought-tolerant plants; herbaceous perennials; shade plants; house plants; vines; succulents, and vegetables will be on sale. Sociology Club Presents "Saving Huey Foundation" Rescheduled
The Fullerton College Sociology Club is hosting the Saving Huey Foundation for a presentation that includes a brief history of dog fighting as well as the current situation faced by anti-dog fighting advocates.

Habits of Mind: Mindfulness Basics
This series of three one-hour long workshops will introduce participants to the theory and practice of mindfulness through discussion and activities. Focused on personal mindfulness practice, this series is appropriate for everyone in the campus community. The next workshop is on Thursday, April 28 at 3 p.m. in Room 312.

Choral/Vocal Department Auditions

Softball
After a 10-1 win over Orange Coast on Wednesday, the FC softball squad wrapped up their last regular season home game with a 4-2 loss over #1 in the state Cypress College on Friday afternoon.

Swim and Dive
The Hornets hosted the Orange Empire Conference Championships from Thursday to Saturday. The FC women's team placed fifth and the Hornet men's team finished sixth out of seven teams.
Men's Track and Field
It was a good day in the preliminary meet for the Hornets as several athletes qualified for the conference championships next Friday at OCC and some athletes have qualified for the SoCal Regional at AVC in two weeks. Pablo Perez had a PR and the second fastest time of the day in the 800m, running 1:54.50. In a final, Justin Walker and Delynn Holland were second and fifth respectively in the Long Jump with both athletes qualifying for the SoCal Regionals. Walker also won his heat in the 110m HH for the conference final this Friday. Francisco Padilla had a big PR in the shot put, throwing 46'7," placing him sixth and moving him into the final. In a 10,00m final, freshmen Brian Grande and Xavier Chavez competed in this event for the first time, a race that covers 25 laps. Grande ran 35:14 and Chavez 35:56. Both of these competitors will run the 5,000m Friday at OCC. Along with the events already mentioned the Hornet men will also compete in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, the triple jump, and the discus.
Women's Track and Field
The Hornets competed in their first of the two-day Orange Empire Conference Championships at Orange Coast College last Friday. The field events were competed as finals as the running events were prelim rounds. The only competitor on the track was Jasmine Mendoza who qualified easily in the 200 meters running 27.71. All of the other track events went to a final round that will be competed next week. On the inside of the track, the javelin was exciting to watch as Samantha Duong placed third with a 98' 5" effort. Teammate Madison Fitzpatrick gave herself the fourth place spot and a 14 foot personal record (PR) throwing 96' 4". Amber Hernandez finished ninth with 70' 1". In the shot put ring, Madison Fitzpatrick finished in sixth place (34' 8.25") and Cydney Chavers took ninth (32' 11.25"). Next week, the Hornet throwers will have the hammer and discus events to contest. All of the running events will be one race each for finals. Watch closely as Samantha Duong will attempt to repeat in the 400M hurdles as back to back OEC Champion.
Up Next: The OEC Championships will be on Friday, April 29 at Orange Coast College. The field events start at noon with the track events beginning at 2 p.m.
