April 2016 - Child Abuse Prevention Month

A proclamation was presented to the Children's Advocacy Center of Comal County to proclaim April 2016 as Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Consent Agenda

All items on the Consent Agenda are considered to be routine by the Board of Trustees and will be enacted with one motion. There will be no separate discussion of the items unless a Board member so requests, in which event the item will be removed from the Consent Agenda and considered as an item on the Regular Agenda. The following items were approved: 
  • Minutes to the Regular Board Meeting held on March 21, 2016, at 7 p.m. 
  • Renewal of the Texas Value Plan and the Catastrophic Plan with the Cash Option for student accident insurance coverage for 2016-2017 for a total cost of $66,722. This expense will be paid for with the General Operating Fund budget.

2015-2016 General Fund Budget Amendment to increase the budget as a result of two items: amending estimated revenue and appropriations to account for iPad repairs and supplies ($16,200); and budgeting previously committed fund balance for technology purchase of iPads and related expenses ($871,440).

Purcha se of Property/Casualty Insurance from The Hartford, through Miller & Miller Insurance Agency for $136,373. This expense will be paid for from the General Operating Fund budget.

P urchase of six (6) Regular Education buses through the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) BuyBoard from Longhorn Bus Sales at a cost of $519,918 plus the $800 BuyBoard fee. Funding for the purchase will be included in the 2016-2017 General Operating Fund budget.

Funding to hire up to nine (9) professional and 24 paraprofessional/auxiliary full-time equivalent (FTE) positions for the 2016-2017 school year. This will allow the NBISD administration to recruit early.

Purchase of 2,100 iPads ($785,400), 2,100 cases ($44,415), 70 carts ($37,445.30) and 2,100 Notability apps ($4,179) for the TEC21 Initiative.
The total price of this purchase will be $871,439.30. This purchase will expand the one-to-one initiative down to 1 st grade and 3 rd grade with inventory allowing most campuses to have one-to-one in 2 nd grade or at least two-to-one with the use of campus and district surplus.
