This Week in Westland
March 8, 2014 - March 16, 2014

Read-a-thon - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library will be hosting a read-a-thon on Saturday, March 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The event is to celebrate the library's newly updated list of 100 books every child should read before starting school.  Guest readers and library staff will try to read all 100 books throughout the day.  They will also be giving more information about the 1000 book challenge that you can participate in year-round and receive reading incentives along the way.

Board of Review - Notices of annual changes in property tax assessments were mailed to homeowners at the end of February and for residents who wish to appeal the assessed value of their property, they may do so at the local Board of Review.  Homeowners wishing to appeal their assessment must contact the Westland Assessors Office at (734)467-3160 to schedule an appointment.  Residents will need to provide market value evidence if they believe the assessment on the home is excessive or incorrect.  The Board of Reviews needs good reason to alter an assessment so it is important to be able to answer the questions, "What do you think your property is worth?" and "What are you basing your opinion on?"  and be able to provide documentation to prove your case.  The Board of Reviews will begin Monday, March 10 and will run through Friday, March 14.
