EMPTY BOWLS BY THE LAKE

The third annual Empty Bowls by the Lake fundraiser will be held on Saturday, October 4 at Bleser Park in Avon Lake from 11am- 2pm.

Potters, crafters, educators, students and volunteers have been working to create and donate handcrafted bowls. Local restaurants will donate soup and bread to serve.

Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread.  In exchange for a cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the 'empty bowls' in the world.

A $20 donation will include one pottery bowl, and unlimited soup and bread.

Children that accompany a $20 donor may participate in the event for a reduced donation of $5 for ages 6-12 and free for 5 and under.  The reduced donation includes soup and bread, but does not include a pottery bowl.

The event will include live entertainment by Emily Keener and the Avon High Electric Orchestra and a silent auction/raffle with opportunities to win such items as a Put-in-Bay for a Day package, Cavs tickets, works created by local artists, and a Vitamix.

All proceeds benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio and Community Resource Services.

The "Empty Bowls Project" is an international grass roots effort to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger. The mission is to create positive and lasting change through the arts, education, and projects that build community.

VOLUNTEERS ARE ALSO STILL NEEDED FOR THE DAY OF THE EVENT...
Learn more about the event and/or how to volunteer at
www.emptybowlsbythelake.org or on Facebook/Empty Bowls by the Lake.

Bleser Park is on Electric Blvd just west of Rte. 83. In case of rain, the event will be held at Avon Lake United Church of Christ.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SOUPer BOWL!

Thank you to everyone who supported this year's SOUPer Bowl Food Drive and Fundraiser. A total of $10,910.97 in monetary donations was collected, in addition to 7,320 pounds of food.

The trophy went to Avon Lake this year, but It was a VERY close competition between the two communities. We were just overwhelmed by the outpouring of community support -- with the real winner being the families we serve here at CRS!  We couldn't keep our food pantry shelves stocked without the support of our local community!

What a great way to start the school year -- thanks again to everyone who played a part in this record-breaking year!

OUR NEXT PDP

CRS will be hosting our next Personal Development Program (PDP) for CRS clients on Tuesday, September 23rd at 7:00 pm at the Avon Lake Library (Parke Room).

The topic is "Helping you Overcome Overhelm" and attendees are asked to bring their organizing questions and dilemmas for discussion. Valuable tips on how to organize household papers and simply your life will be part of the program. Registration is required by calling the CRS office at 933-5639.

Thank you so much to Andrea Sharb of S.O.S. -- Sharb Organizing Solutions -- for sharing her expertise with our clients and being our presenter for this very helpful educational opportunity!

COMMUNITY LUNCH BUNCH

For more information, please call the church office at 933-6240.

THE HONOR PROJECT

Thank you to Judge John J. Russo and the Honor Project for presenting CRS with a check for $20,402.00 in support of our 2014-2015 Back to School Readiness Program. This very generous donation will allow us to be more proactive in gathering backpacks and school supplies to send our local kids back to school next August, ready to learn! It will also give us the opportunity to expand upon this very important program.

We were part of a very special check distribution event on Thursday, September 4th at Cleveland's new Global Center downtown. Looking around the room at the many organizations receiving funding from the Honor Project, we were truly honored and blessed to be included in such an impressive group of non-profit organizations.

If you're interested in learning more about The Honor Project, please visit their website at www.honorproject.org.

Thanks again to everyone who made this donation possible, and for supporting the kids in Avon and Avon Lake who need a helping hand!

THANKS TO THE AVON LAKE WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT CORP.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the Avon Lake Waterfront Development Corp. for presenting CRS with a check for $2,500 to help our local families. Additional thanks to Hinkley Lighting and PolyOne for each contributing a portion of the total donated.

We are truly grateful for the support of so many local organizations and companies. On behalf of the local families that we serve, thank you for continuing to care about your community!
BIG TRUCKS

2014 Big Trucks will be Saturday, September 20th from 10 am to 2 pm at the Avon Lake Safety Center on Walker Road.

CRS will once again have a table, so please stop by! We hope to see many of you there!

Local scouts will be picking up the donations starting at 10 am. All donations will stay in the community and be distributed through CRS. Please...no expired foods or glass jars. Thank you!
