Approaching DAAD Deadlines: October 15 and December 15

October 15 is the deadline for the Faculty Research Visit Grant: Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists and the Re-Invitation Program for Former Scholarship Holders.

The Faculty Research Visit Grant: Research Stays for University Academics and Scientists funds scholars of all disciplines at US and Canadian institutions of higher education to pursue research at universities, libraries, archives, institutes or laboratories in Germany for a period from one to three months. The aim of this particular program is to support short-term research stays and thus promote the exchange of experience and networking amongst colleagues. Grants are awarded for research projects and cannot be used for travel only.

The Re-Invitation Program for Former Scholarship Holders offers funding in all academic disciplines to scholars at US and Canadian institutions of higher education to pursue research at universities, libraries, archives, institutes or laboratories in Germany for a period of one to three months. The aim of this particular program is to enable former scholarship holder to carry out research projects in Germany and to maintain contacts as part of DAAD�s global alumni network. Grants are awarded for research and work projects and cannot be used for travel only. Airfare to Germany will not be covered and lecture tours, attendance at conferences or conventions, editorial meetings or extended guest professorships are not funded.

December 15 is the deadline for the University Summer Course Grant and the Intensive Language Course Grant.

The University Summer Course Grant provides funding to attend a broad range of 3- to 4-week summer language courses at German universities which focus mainly on German language and literary, cultural, political and economic aspects of modern and contemporary Germany. Extensive extracurricular programs complement and reinforce the core material.
Scholarships are awarded to students pursuing full-time study at Canadian or US colleges or universities. There are no restrictions as to field of study, but applicants must have attained at least sophomore standing (10 full-course credits for Canadians) at the time of application.

The Intensive Language Course Grant funds applicants from North American universities, who at the time of application have attained at least sophomore standing (second-year standing in Canada), to attend 8-week intensive language courses at leading institutes in Germany.
Please note that undergraduate students are now also eligible to apply to the Intensive Language Course Grant.

The Winter Program is open to undergraduate students and adult learners from all countries and of all majors and professions and will provide you with:

� a broad insight into European politics, business, history, law, and culture (seminars are conducted entirely in English, no previous knowledge of German required)
� excursions to important centers of European decision-making: Berlin, Strasbourg, Frankfurt and to relevant companies in the Baden-W�rttemberg area
� a German language course
� a �Buddy�-program: International students will have the chance to team up with a German student who will serve as �Buddy� throughout the program
� an intercultural workshop which focusses on the development of intercultural competence with a particular focus on German culture
� up to 12 course credits





The application deadline is 14 November 2014. The program fee of EUR 1,800 (3 weeks) or EUR 2,800 (6 weeks) comprises all courses and excursions, accommodation, a public transportation ticket for use within T�bingen as well as cultural and social activities.

Start-up Scholarships for International MA Graduates

The Bielefeld Graduate School in History and Sociology (BGHS) awards up to six four-month start-up scholarships to international MA graduates who would like to pursue a doctoral degree in history, sociology, anthropology, or political science at the BGHS. Recipients receive the opportunity to prepare a persuasive proposal for a dissertation project. Subsequently, they may apply for the doctoral degree programme at the BGHS and/or for scholarships, doctoral positions and funding programmes in Germany or worldwide.

Application deadline is October 26, 2014.
