A HUGE thank you to the 24 volunteers who braved Saturday's  heat to spend 4 hours cleaning up the gardens on UT's campus!  Garden Team members Robert Blackledge, Jane Blackledge, Angie Wall, Jenny Sutcliffe, and Susan Teddlie helped supervise volunteers from the Kappa Delta Epsilon education sorority, a Counseling fraternity, and Engineers Without Borders all from LSU.  They pruned, weeded, planted flowers, and painted stepping stones.  On behalf of all the students and teachers, I send you all hundreds of hugs of appreciation for beautifying their campus!

We are well into the Fall Semester and I continue to be amazed by the wonderful ways in which you interact with the children.  After this week, there are only 5 more weeks of regular mentoring this semester. As you begin to make your schedules for Spring Semester, please keep your mentoring time in mind. Especially for those of who whose children are in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades - 2:25-3:10 PM is the only time they're allowed to miss class.

I hope everyone who went to the Skeeter Run this past Saturday enjoyed it! We had a great turn out and lots of UUMC winners!! Congrats to all for finishing!

I'm getting more updates that people are injured. Please please please, stretch, drink water, and rest if you need an off day, but also don't just expect to go out and walk 10 miles if you haven't been training. Build up your strength and stay with it!

A few announcements for this week:

1. The update will be delayed this week and will be done by Friday

2. Please join the group to walktomorrow night (Wednesday). Barbara Albright will organize on the fellowship hall steps after supper. It will be a nice night to walk.

3  Reminder to update miles!!

Click here to report your miles online by going to
 http://walktobethlehem.universitymethodist.org
or make sure to log your miles in the log book in the fellowship hall each
Sunday for the previous week!

BONUS MILES FOR WEEK 5:
Add 3 miles if you participated in the Skeeter Run!

WEEK 5 DEVOTIONAL:
"After a day's walk, everything has twice its usual value." George Macauley Trevelyan

"An early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day." Henry David Thoreau

Try a morning walk even it that's not your preferred time for exercise. You don't have to go far, but move and stretch for at least 15 minutes Pay attention to the rest of yourday. How does morning movement change the
"value" of your day?

I hope you all have a great week!

UPCOMING DAYTIMERS TRIP
NOVEMBER 2014

Mississippi Gulf Coast
Thursday, November 6, 2014

It has been awhile since we last traveled to the Mississippi Coast.  We've loaded this trip with a lot to see and do since we'll be going this far.  The first stop will be to the delightful little town of Ocean Springs to visit the Walter Anderson Museum of Art.  To quote from the web site, "A visit to the Walter Anderson Museum of Art (WAMA) is an enchanting and unique experience. The Walter Anderson Museum was opened in 1991 and is dedicated to the celebration of the works of Walter Inglis Anderson (1903-1965), an American master, whose depictions of the plants, animals, and people of the Gulf Coast have placed him among the foremost of American painters of the Twentieth Century; and to his brothers, Peter Anderson (1901-1984), master potter and founder of Shearwater Pottery; and James McConnell Anderson (1907-1998), noted painter and ceramist. The watercolors, drawings, oils, block prints, ceramics, and carvings by the three Anderson brothers are all represented in the museum's permanent collection."  As some will know, he is considered "unusual," so plan for it.  Of course, there is also a gift shop.   http://www.walterandersonmuseum.org/

After the long ride and tour of the Anderson Art Museum, lunch will be at the sumptuous buffet at Beau Rivage Casino - another highlight of the trip.

The next sightseeing part of the trip will be to the Ohr O'Keefe Museum of Art in Biloxi.  This Museum houses many different exhibits, many of them being pottery.  In addition, the design of the Museum area is unique.  There is still much construction work to be done but we will get to see a work in progress.  Docents or staff will give us a tour.  http://georgeohr.org/

The final site to visit is Beauvoir - The Jefferson Davis Home and Presidential Library.  After the Civil War, Confederate President Jefferson Davis was invited by the family that owned the home and plantation to live there.  Davis stayed here until his death, working on his memoirs.  The original home is a Museum and Library.  Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of the other buildings but considerable restoration has been accomplished.  We will have guided tours of the home and grounds.   www.beauvoir.org

Details:  cost is $60 per person.  We'll board the bus at St. John's UMC, 7:15-7:30 a.m. and should return around 6:15 p.m.  All travelers except St. John's Primetimers will register by calling Peggy Kilgore, 766-7230.  The deadline is Saturday, October 25.  For this group, checks should be made to UUMC with "Daytimers" in the "For" field.

As usual, St. John's Primetimers will register by contacting the church office, 766-4594, with a deadline of Thursday, October 23.  Make checks payable to "Prime Timers."

Payment is due upon registration. Because of the large cost of reserving the bus and other expenses, once you commit to go, there can be no refunds.  Caution:  the bus frequently fills for this type trip, so register early.
