Through the volunteer efforts of practicing attorneys and law students, For People of Color, Inc. ("FPOC") directly assists more than 5,000 students a year in realizing their dream of attaining a law school education. Over the past 14 years, FPOC has grown in its breadth and scope and is now a leading organization in the effort to diversify the legal profession with an annual membership of over 15,000.
 
FPOC was created in response to various state-wide initiatives targeting Affirmative Action programs in higher education. As a result of these initiatives, we have seen the number of students of color plummet in law school. 
 

To address this problem, FPOC conducts workshops on various topics, including law school admissions, passing the bar exam, and the importance of judicial clerkships. One of the keys to FPOC's success is that our workshops also serve as a motivational tool for students that are often discouraged from pursuing a legal education due to cultural and socioeconomic barriers experienced in their day-to-day lives. This year alone, FPOC conducted numerous workshops across California and in New York City, and helped students gain admission into some of the best law schools in the country.
