Spring is here, meaning longer days, warmer temperatures, and the return of America's pastime - baseball.  And, it means that walk season is upon us! What better way to celebrate spring than by participating in the 2nd annual 1 Million Steps 4 OCD Walk

Last year, over people walked in communities all over the country and raised over $70,000 for the IOCDF, while also raising awareness and understanding about OCD and related disorders.

The 2nd annual 1 Million Steps 4 OCD - 5k Walk in Boston will take place on June 7, 2014. And this year we have partnered with OCD Sacramento to co-host the first-ever Walk on the West Coast, the 1 Million Steps 4 OCD - 4K Walk in Sacramento on May 10, 2014.

If you can't make it to Boston or Sacramento, why not walk in YOUR own community?

You can join the walk "virtually" by setting up a fundraising page, and pledging to walk for OCD between now and June 7th.  This can be something you do on your own, such as your daily morning walk or run, or you can gather a team of friends and family to walk with you at a local park on a specific day.  If you sign up by May 10, 2014, you can even receive your walk T-shirt in time to wear it as you walk!  To create a walk in your community, go to www.iocdf.org/virtualwalk today, and start walking!

Each participant's motivation to walk is unique; it may be for you, for your child, or for a loved one or a neighbor.

1 in 100 people in the US are living with OCD. And many of those people don't have access to effective treatment. Help us change that. Take a step and be part of #1million4OCD.

How to Get Involved in the Walk:

There are many ways to participate, no matter where you live:

  • Register to become a virtual walker and start a walk in your hometown: you can walk alone, or invite friends along. You can walk on a treadmill, or organize a weekly meeting at a local track! No matter what you do, you'll be walking for OCD, and helping raise awareness!
  • ...and then start fundraising!
    • Once you register for the walk here, you automatically get your own fundraising page on FirstGiving.org with its own link!
    • Share your newly created fundraising page via your networks in real-life (family, friends, and colleagues) and online (via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, email, etc.). Use ourfundraising toolkit for tips and tools about how to get the biggest impact.
  • Help spread the word about the Walk:
    • Email friends and family who might be interested in learning more or participating in the virtual or in-person walks.
    • Share links to the walk on your Facebook or Twitter accounts: www.iocdf.org/Walk
    • Tweet about the walk using our hashtag #1Million4OCD!
  • Become a donor for the walk:
Together we can make a difference and change the way people think about OCD and related disorders.  Won't you please join us now?
