Ethel Percy Andrus: How One Woman Changed America
June 28 - October 5, 2014
Exhibit Extended By Popular Demand! Explore our current original exhibit on Ethel Percy Andrus (1881-1967), the first woman high school principal in California. Dr. Andrus was a progressive educator, social innovator, and cultural visionary. An Ojai resident, she founded The Gables of Ojai, the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA) and AARP.

The Ojai Theater: 100 Years of Movies (1914-2014)
October 21 - December 28, 2014
New Original History Exhibit Opening in October. It's time to celebrate -- the Ojai theater turns 100 years old this year. Guest Community Curator, Elise DePuydt, traces the history of the movie theater in Ojai over time including the movie house owners, films made in Ojai, animal stars, and Ojai celebrities.

"Town Talk":  The Future of Progressive Education

Ojai is known for its many schools based on progressive education principles. This "Town Talk" will address what "progressive education" means in 2014 and how it might be applied in the future. 
 
Linda Taylor, president of the Ojai Unified School District Board and former longtime Nordhoff High School teacher, will moderate the discussion. Additional panelists include: Susan Hardenbergh of Monica Ros School, Paul Herder of Oak Grove School, Karen Morse of Ojai Valley School, Dennis Rice of Villanova (formerly of Happy Valley and Laurel Springs), and Craig Walker of Valley Oak Charter (formerly of Nordhoff and Chaparral).

AARP and You: Our Shared Story

The Ojai Valley Museum and The Gables of Ojai co-host a special presentation held in conjunction with the current exhibition on social innovator, Ethel Percy Andrus. Visiting AARP historian, Lily Liu, will give an enlightening PowerPoint presentation focused on Dr. Andrus, founder of Grey Gables and AARP in Ojai during the 1950s.

The Children's Program

Reading of "
Morgan McAllister: Super Scientist and The Garden Mystery"
Saturday, September 6, 2014
10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Ojai author and elementary school teacher, Charline Norton, will tell the story of super scientist, Morgan McAllister, whose grandmother (a botanist and gardener) teaches Morgan about what happens in the garden. This book appeals to 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders. Children will receive a basket with seed to take home. Click here to learn more about the book.

Reading of "Sarah 'n' Dippity"
Saturday, September 20, 2014
10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Local Children's Librarian, Julie Albright, will share the story of Sarah and her fairy-like friend, Dippity. Sarah loses things and Dippity helps find them. Pictures from the book and safe crayons will be available for coloring after storytelling. Click here
