Air Traffic Control Association

A Message from Candidate Jonathan Astill

Dear fellow ATCA members,

The world of Air Traffic Control and Air Traffic Management is changing and at a growing pace. Whether that is driven by technological developments in the SESAR or NextGen programmes, political developments in the US or Europe or the strengthening voice of the airlines - the major customer of our services - and the emerging impact of the Middle East and Far Eastern Market on the growth of aviation the pace of change is accelerating and on a global scale.

It is vital then that those of us who are part of the industry and care passionately about its future continue to have strong voices across the world. Together, no matter what our background, we can ensure that our industry continues to develop in a manner that is safe, efficient and cost effective and can continue to be the lifeblood of a globalised economy. ATCA is a uniquely strong voice that brings together a diversity of its membership - operators, ANSPs, the military, manufacturers, academia and advocacy groups - to promote that development in a way that represents all aspects of the industry And I am passionate that it remains so.

As you will know the ATCA board elections are currently open for your votes to be cast and I am standing for election as Director, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. As a former air traffic controller at the London Control Centre I am passionate about the development of the industry and have spent more than 25 years leading airspace and system development and change management implementation, both at home in the UK and within Europe.

In my current role as International Affairs Director for NATS, the UK's leading provider of air traffic control services, I have continued to develop strong relationships across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the USA with other ANSPs, manufacturers and airlines alike. I am also an active participant within CANSO in both Europe and the Middle East.

I am committed to ensuring the future success of ATCA in our continually evolving industry. I would be honoured if you would consider entrusting your vote to me so that I can serve our region and help ensure that our views are heard in the strong voice of ATCA, on both sides of the Atlantic.

My best regards,
