Holiday greetings from the staff of The Center for Balance!

Dr. Shumrick presenting at the Midwest Brain Tumor Conference at the Sharonville Convention Center this summer on dizziness and balance deficits caused by brain tumor. The conference brought together experts in the Tri-State area to present and answer questions concerning the treatment and rehabilitation of deficits caused by brain tumors. Attendees came from seven different states to listen, learn, and ask questions.
Dizziness and Imbalance Issues

Dizziness and imbalance represent one the most common complaints that patients bring to their physicians. Unfortunately, dizziness and imbalance and can lead to disequilibrium, fear of falling and increased risk for falling, inactivity,  functional disability, inability to work , and a poor quality of life. Dizziness/Imbalance is caused by a combination of deficiencies in the somatosensory (joint sense), visual, and vestibular (inner ear) systems.

Some common causes of dizziness/vertigo and/or imbalance include:

- Patients at risk for falling/or who have fallen

- General Dizziness Disorders

- Vertigo (the sense of you or the environment spinning)/BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo/room spinning with head position changes)

- Vestibular Disorders (inner ear disorders)

- Static balance problems (balance problems in small spaces, while standing stationary with eyes open/closed, bending to pick up objects off floor, reaching, turning in small places)

- Dynamic Balance Problems (balance while walking, stepping over and around obstacles, going up and down stairs)

- Ototoxic Balance Disorders (adverse affects secondary to medications)

- Post Stroke / TIA/Mini Stroke

- Cancer- related dizziness and imbalance, due to treatment

- Brain Tumor related dizziness and imbalance

- Post- Concussion Dizziness and Balance Related disorders

- Post Traumatic Brain Injury Dizziness and Balance Related Disorders

- Cervicogenic Dizziness and Balance Related Disorders (neck stiffness/pain, whiplash injuries causing dizziness)

- Multiple Sclerosis

- Parkinson's Disease

- Meniere's Disease

- Ataxia (uncoordinated gait movement)

- Poor Endurance or Advanced Age

- Age -related dizziness and imbalance

Diagnosis and treatment can be difficult. Whether a definitive diagnosis is made or not, the symptoms of dizziness, vertigo, and imbalance remain, and need to be addressed.

Successful treatment depends on accurate assessment and treatment of your symptoms.  The Center for Balance is the only practice in Cincinnati that has developed evaluation and treatment techniques unique to our clinics. In other words, we treat patient suffering from dizziness, vertigo, and balance issues no matter the cause. Our success rate speaks for itself.

THE CENTER FOR BALANCE IS THE ONLY CLINIC IN CINCINNATI THAT  SOLELY TREATS  PATIENTS SUFFERING FROM DIZZINESS, VERTIGO, AND BALANCE RELATED ISSUES.

Patient Testimonial
Dr. Shumrick and crew, Thanks for your help treating my dizziness and balance problems. I went to another therapy place that told me my balance problems were because of leg weakness, and all they wanted to do was put me on leg machines and walk away. I knew it wasn't my legs and thank goodness you guys knew immediately it was my inner ear. I am back to my regular schedule because of the therapy you guys did. I will tell everyone that you guys specialize in this and not to go to just anyone.

Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare. They are consumed in twelve minutes.
Half-time takes twelve minutes. This is  not coincidence.

Fall Prevention tip

Kitchen

Are throw rugs/floor mats secure?

Can you get to regularly used items without bending down or reaching up too far?

Are spills cleaned up immediately?

If you use a step stool, use one with a bar to hold onto.

Wishing you and your family a happy  and safe Thanksgiving!
