All American Cruise - The All American Cruise continues to gain momentum and this year on Saturday, July 12 they will be hosting vendors in 2 locations. The Westland Historic Village will be passing out 100 commemorative dash plaques to the first 100 classic cars and hot rods that stop by the village. On display will be the Detroit Grand Prix car, the Model T fire truck and many other things. The second location for vendors will be the Wayne Ford Civic League. There will be food and auto collectible product vendors. This is an all day event and the route will be Wayne Rd. from Joy to Glenwood.

Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings. Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location.

- There will be a meeting of the Housing Commission on Tuesday, July 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Dorsey Center, locates at 32715 Dorsey.

The City of Westland has scheduled three meetings throughout the month of July, which will focus on the new sanitation and garbage collection program. The meetings are open to the public. The dates, times, and locations are as follows:

-Thursday, July 17, 6 - 7 pm:The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 7575 N. Hix Rd.

-Tuesday, July 22, 6 - 7 pm: Dorsey Center, 32715 Dorsey.

-Tuesday, July 29, 6 - 7 pm: Friendship Center, 1119 Newburgh Rd.

Restaurant Rally - Join the Westland Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, July 14 for their 9th Annual Restaurant Rally. The event will go from 6 - 10 pm, costs only $20, and proceeds will go towards the Compassionate City campaign. You can purchase tickets at the Westland Chamber of Commerce, 36900 Ford Rd, or by calling 734-326-7222. Participants must wear their Restaurant Rally T-Shirts - that is your "ticket" into the restaurants. Sponsoring restaurants are: Beaver Creek, Biggby Coffee, Famous Dave's, Max & Erma's, McDonalds, Papa Romanos/Mr. Pita, Texas Roadhouse, Toarmina's Pizza, Westland Dairy Queen and Westland Charhouse.

Movie Night - Join the William P. Faust Westland Public Library for their 2014 Friday Movie Summer season - this summer's theme ties into the Summer Reading Program: "Fizz, Boom, Read"! This Friday, July 18, the movie is "The Grand Budapest Hotel," about "The adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. Doors open at 6:30 and the movie will begin at 7 pm.

Challenge for Compassion - Are you ready for the Challenge for Compassion? Join us for this day-long event, Saturday, July 19. As part of the Compasionate City Initiative, the Challenge for Compassion is for people of all ages to raise funds and awareness for charities and organizations through participating in various fun-filled events! The City of Westland will be holding a Zumbathon for kids grades 2-6. There is no set donation amount, but any proceeds will go to children suffering from cancer at St. Jude's Children's Hospital. The Zumbathon, which is planned specifically for young participants, will provide a venue to demonstrate caring and support for each other, and provide fun physical exercise.

Westland Farmer's Market Held Every Thursday - The Westland Farmer's Market will be held from 3 - 7 p.m. every Thursday in the City Hall Parking Lot, located at 36601 Ford Road. This is the ultimate site for farmers, growers and producers to sell their own products directly to the public. Residents now have the opportunity to catch a FREE ride to the market at the following locations and times. *All times are approximate and dependent on weather, traffic, available space, etc.
