Cordoba Initiative at the Chautauqua Institution

We had a very successful year at Chautauqua, with many TCI friends joining us for the first time. Imam Feisal's daily morning Muslim devotional hour was very well attended and we are excited and encouraged by the diversity of people who joined us this year.

Our Cordoba House mission was very well received and gained support from the other Chautauqua faith leaders.  During the week TCI hosted a reception for other Chautauqua interdenominational houses to share with them TCI's plan to establish a Cordoba House there.  Our guests included leaders from the broad multi-denominational Chautauqua community from all over the country.

We gave them an overview of The Cordoba Initiative, a description of our vision of a Cordoba House, our goal to establish and expand a Cordoba House at Chautauqua, and our plans to contribute to the already vibrant community there.

The guests received our message warmly and enthusiastically. Many spoke openly and sincerely, welcoming TCI's Cordoba House. Several offered various levels of support and help, including invitations to use their Chautauqua facilities for TCI events while we are working to establish a permanent presence here. One of the Faith leaders even said that Chautauqua needs TCI and a Cordoba House more than TCI needs Chautauqua. This was incredibly touching and encouraging.

We hope that more TCI Friends will join us there next year!

Defining Islamic Good Governance: All about Hijab
Two-Part Op-Ed by Imam Feisal in The Malaysian Star

When Imam Feisal wrote his Op-Ed series on Hudud in The Malaysian Star in July 2014, a concerned father wrote for advice, saying his daughter had decided, based on her study of the Quran and the hadith, to remove the headscarf she had been brought up wearing, just before her university graduation. In this two-part op-ed, Imam Feisal address the question of whether Islam requires the hijab.
