Professors:

Do you want to take your studio or planning class to another level?  Are your students ready to solve real-life planning challenges with a career-building assignment? Participate in the Sustainable Growth Challenge, and your students will have an opportunity to present the results of your studio class assignment to a panel from the Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission.

The projects should promote economic, environmental and social analysis on the community level. Each assignment, which must be faculty-run, should include either undergraduate and/or graduate students pursuing degrees in planning, architecture, engineering or related subjects. Submissions will be judged by a panel of state smart growth experts at the conclusion of the fall 2014 semester.

Projects, which should originate from your existing studio class, might include strengthening connections between campuses and towns, infill and redevelopment, and solutions to environmental challenges like sea-level rise.

Submit your expression of interest by September 1. Winning presentations will be showcased at the commission's annual awards ceremony in January.Projects must address one or more of Maryland's 12 Planning Visions.

The Sustainable Growth Challenge is sponsored by the Education Workgroup of the Sustainable Growth Commission, and developed and managed by the Maryland Departments of Planning and Natural Resources. Learn more and view last year's winners on the Sustainable Growth Challenge webpage
