As you know, Second ACT is owned and operated by Abuse Counseling and Treatment, Inc. a non-profit agency serving victims of domestic violence and their children and survivors of sexual assault and human trafficking in Lee, Hendry and Glades Counties for the past 35 years.

To Raise Awareness

Book to Walk in Fort Myers on March 30

 

 On March 30, Lauren Book, author, advocate, and survivor of childhood sexual abuse will stop in Fort Myers as part of her fourth annual Walk in My Shoes awareness event. The 1,500-mile journey, which will begin in the Florida Keys, will crisscross the state before concluding in Tallahassee at the State Capitol.

 

While in Fort Myers, Lauren will join Children's Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida (CAC), Abuse Counseling and Treatment, Child Care of Southwest Florida and the Early Learning Coalition to unite survivors, educate the community and advocate for prevention and legislative change. According to CAC's CEO Jill Turner, "95 percent of sexual abuse is preventable with education and awareness. We are thrilled to once again partner with Lauren and her foundation, Lauren's Kids, to lead the fight to prevent abuse and help survivors heal."

 

The public is encouraged to join Lauren for the Fort Myers leg of her journey which will begin at CAC, 3830 Evans Avenue in Fort Myers at 8:15 AM with registration and remarks by local dignitaries. The walk will end at approximately 11:45 AM at Hunter Park, 1526 Oak Drive, Fort Myers. After the walk, guests will enjoy refreshments and educational presentations.There will also be an Easter egg hunt for the children. The event is free of charge.
