Limoneira Sheep Raps About Clean Energy In New Video

Limoneira is hoping to connect with a younger audience and promote clean energy with a new video that mixes fun with science. The video was recently featured on ANUK (And Now You Know), one of the produce industry's important media channels. It features a Limoneira sheep rapping about solar power and the company's commitment to clean energy. Sustainability is an important topic, and the Company wanted something a bit more light hearted that could connect with a younger audience too. The video allowed Limoneira to bridge that gap and cover a serious topic, but in a fun way that everyone can appreciate.

Limoneira regularly strives to teach children about the produce industry and what goes into growing the food that they all enjoy every day. Limoneira partners with SeeAg (www.seeag.org ) and schools to give school kids the opportunity to tour Limoneira's facilities in order to teach them a bit more about its day-to-day operations. Every year hundreds of kids tour Limoneira ranch, learning where their food comes from, getting a close up look of Limoneira's solar orchard, and even meeting Limoniera's sheep first hand (the sheep graze among the panels to provide natural weed abatement). The kids love the tours and it really helps Limoneira as a business connect with the kids on a personal level.

Limoneira Mixes It Up With Brian Leon From Nobu Malibu And Regina Schauerte From Blackbird In San Francisco - New Limoneira Mixologist Opinion Leaders

Regina Schauerte

BlackBird is a great San Francisco neighborhood bar with an extensive craft beer choice, wine pours, an encyclopedic back bar and gorgeous cocktails. Regina Schauerte is one of the talented bartenders and believes that ingredients for a good bartender are equal parts empathy, patience and a sense of humor. Her humility and down-to-earth quality belie her extensive knowledge of her chosen craft. Asked about her favorite drink to make, Regina says that "all of our drinks are pretty labor-intensive. A lot of muddling, shaking, stirring are involved. I came up with a new drink which has gin, quince jam, lemon, celery shrub and topped with pilsner beer. It's fresh and vibrant". Regina also notes that good watering holes add a positive dimension to society and say's "sometimes I fear technology is keeping people disconnected. Places where you can drink and share a good laugh, or cry, will hopefully keep human interaction alive". www.blackbirdbar.com. Regina and her husband are also planning an exciting new cocktail catering and consulting company, called SipCraft. Stay tuned for more information!

Brian Leon

General Manager Brian Leon surveys the evening buzz at the 6,800 square foot jewel that is Nobu Mailibu. Floor-to-ceiling windows offer stunning vistas of 180 coastline and blue Pacific waves dramatically crashing on the beach. The place is packed, yet serene. Diners are enjoying pre-dinner cocktails on ocean side daybeds and a warm glow of an outdoor fireplace. The sun is just beginning to set and twinkling stars become ever more magical against an inky sky.

After eight years of working for Nobu, Leon has seen quite a bit, especially given the heady atmosphere of Malibu. Regulars like Robert Downey Jr., Courteney Cox, Mel Gibson, Nicole Richie, and Pink love the vibe and "Paparazzi-free" calm. They also love Executive Chef Gregorio Stephenson's tiradito, black cod with miso, and mini-tacos. "We tend to stick to the staples every time we go," says Rande Gerber, who has been frequenting Nobu with wife Cindy Crawford for more than a decade.

In addition to Leon's capable management of this well oiled machine, he's a talented mixologist and enjoys the creativity of conjuring up new concoctions. He notes that "it's relaxing and enables me to be inventive". As he looks out past the crowd at the setting sun, you can see that he's completely in his element. www.noburestaurants.com/malibu.

Wong's

In 1942, Erasmo Wong, a Chinese-Peruvian, opened a small store at a corner in the valo Gutirrez, in a residential area in Miraflores. Originally a family business, the store kept growing and in 1983, the first store of the present-day Wong supermarket chain was inaugurated. It is one of Peru's leading chains and is now owned by the Chilean company Cencosud, Today, Cencosud has 18 Wong's supermarkets. Wong's growth was characterized by going against market trends, being more customer service oriented instead of the more usual self-service and investing during some of the Peruvian economy's hardest times.

The following is excerpted from Kate Mulder's Peru this Week article "Business lessons from Peru's Wong family")

Wong is an iconic name in Peruvian business. As a foreigner, I'm amazed at how loyal Peruvians are to the brand; it seems to have a place in their hearts, gives them a sense of trust, a sense of home. As someone who enjoys learning the psychology of consumer behavior, it's fascinating to watch.

The first time I walked into a Wong supermarket, I immediately thought of the book, The Experience Economy, written in by James Gilmore and Joseph Pine in 1999. They define the era of a successful business, teaching and showcasing that "goods and services are no longer enough; it's giving your customer an experience that transforms your business and is the basis for future economic growth. The Experience Economy has helped revolutionize multiple industries from marketing to tourism and architecture to urban planning, and Wong feels like it could be a case study taken right from the book. Everything that the Wong brand does seems to exemplify this theory of the "experience economy", and even though the beloved grocery chain is now in the hands of a Chilean company, the family is still involved in multiple sectors creating similar results.

Gaston y Astrid

Gaston Acurio is one of Peru's most famous chefs - indeed, one of its best-known celebrities of any sort. He maintains a restaurant empire that stretches Bogot to Madrid, from Buenos Aires to San Francisco and New York, Acurio is an international ambassador for Peruvian gastronomy. Earlier this year Astrid y Gastn (named after the chef and his German-born wife) relocated Acurio's 20-year-old Miraflores flagship, to a new location nearby as part of the prolific chef-restaurateur's latest and most ambitious project to date: Casa Moreyra. A historic hacienda in the San Isidro district of Lima, Casa Moreyra has been transformed into multi-faceted gastro-centre incorporating a casual bar-restaurant, event space, botanic garden, research and development facility and more.

Limoneria On The Campfire Trail With Stephen Depuis

On August 8, Steven Depuis and his colleagues at team Depuis will hold a Campfire to discuss all things Sustainability. Limoneira was a natural stop in the day's festivities and when Steven reached out to us we were happy to offer the happy campers a tour/confab about Limoneira's sustainable practices.

Campfire is one of the ways Steven and the group stretches thinking by allowing unconnected thoughts and ideas to find purpose and meaning. All too often business challenges are approached through expected, linear processes. Campfire seeks to unlock everyone's potential for discovering new, groundbreaking ideas. It's an unconventional forum that invites a diverse range of individuals from varied backgrounds to come together informally over dinner. Steven shares, "Our inspiration came from the French Salons of the early 1900s where a collective of intellectuals, artists, writers, scientists, entrepreneurs and inventors openly shared and discussed the future." That's what Campfire is: an open, inspiring, energy-charged evening of exciting dialogues-a pump primer for idea discovery."
