Letter from the Executive Director

It is hard to believe that this year marks the end of Blackstone Valley Prep (BVP) Mayoral Academy's fifth school year and the start of another summer.

As we close out, reflect on the year and look toward the future, we also have much to celebrate:
  • BVP High school is fully enrolled with 100 scholars set to begin the 2014-15 school year as the founding ninth grade class.  Jonathan Santos Silva, BVP High School Head of School, spent much of this year visiting and learning from dozens of high performing schools. With a commitment to blended learning, funds raised this year have been used to purchase the infrastructure to accomplish this, including critical technology for Next Generation learning.

  • BVP scholars continued to grow in their academic preparation and experience a joyful program rich with art, music and athletics.

  • Our teachers, new and returning, are also growing and demonstrating the value of lifelong learning. Earlier this year, we celebrated Marielle Emet, who was honored with the highly selective Milken Educator Award.  Additionally, several teacher leaders have been invited to participate in acclaimed development programs, including Building Excellent Schools, FUSE and the Rhode Island Principal Residency Network.

These are only a few of the amazing things that happened throughout the year.  There are so many more documented on our Facebook and Twitter (don't forget to follow us so you can stay connected over the summer), and even more that happened offline but are just as meaningful to our families and scholars.

Our scholars and teachers celebrate their last day of the school year today, but we already look forward to all of the new memories we will create this summer at our August summer training for staff (help welcome them!) and in the upcoming school year.  We hope you will join us over the month of July  as we reflect (and relax), and we look forward to reconnecting again in August!

Best wishes for a safe, happy and healthy summer.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Chiappetta

Guest Professors Teach "College Day" Courses at BVP Middle School
As part of College Day, scholars enroll in different classes that they normally wouldn't get the chance to take during the regular school day, such as Politics 101, Advertising & PR, Film 101, Intro to Gymnastics, among many others.

Enjoy a few pictures from our 2014 College Days below.

Scholars who had College Day played rugby and took other courses like computer coding and ethics. Scholars also went on learning trips to museums and college visits.

Gymnastics was only one of many College Day courses offered to scholars.
