Race weekend is fast approaching and we want to make sure you are well informed.  Please understand, we know that these newsletters are going to people who are not doing the event, or that don't want to receive information about it.  We ask that you simply delete the email in that case.  This newsletter is one of the best methods for us to get information out.  If you are in the event, feel free to forward to friends who may not receive the latest and greatest of details.

 

We believe in over communicating and want to make sure people are most informed, but also understand there are folks receiving this who do not need this information, but we need to do our due diligence.

The MVP Health Care Rochester Marathon features a flat, fast course that is also a Boston Qualifier! The course is truly unique and exciting, combining the fun and energy of running through the Downtown Rochester area with the scenic path of the historic Erie Canal and Genesee River.

PACKET PICK-UP & MARATHON EXPO   

Please go to Packet Pickup!

Please do not wait until day of!

 

Packet pick-up for ALL events will be held at the MVP Health Care Rochester Marathon Expo on September 19th & 20th. The Expo will be held at the Gallery located next to Fleet Feet Sports Rochester (155 Culver Road, Rochester, NY 14620) and is being presented by Fleet Feet Sports Rochester. Be sure to check out the great deals on running apparel, accessories, footwear and official marathon merchandise.

 

You can also register at Packet Picket Pick-Up. There will be no registration on Race Day! Packet Pick-Up/Expo hours are below:

 

    Friday, September 19, 2014        10:00 am - 7:00 pm

    Saturday, September 20, 2014    10:00 am - 4:00 pm

 

It is highly encouraged to go to packet pickup and not wait until race day to get your packet. If you can't make packet pick-up on Friday or Saturday, there will be packet pick-up on Race Day at Frontier Field between 5:30 am - 7:00 am.  

 

  

RACE DAY INFORMATION 
Timing Details

YOU MUST MUST MUST WEAR YOUR BIB VISIBLY ON THE FRONT OF YOUR TORSO. We will be using the MyLaps BibTag System. Your timing chip is ON the back of your bib, thus if you lose it, forget it, misplace it etc, there is a $5 replacement fee. No chip, no time. You will get the Bib Chip during packet pickup. Reminder! Be sure to wear your bib chip visibly on your torso, not on your shorts, not on your back, not on your arm, not under a jacket etc.

 

Parking

We suggest on race day morning that you park at Frontier Field and walk the � mile to the starting line. The finish line will be on Morrie Silver Way in front of Frontier Field, so once you finish you will be conveniently close to your vehicle. Free parking is available to all participants and spectators in the parking lots surrounding Frontier Field. Parking Lot C is located on Plymouth Avenue & Lot D is located on Morrie Silver Way.

  

The Course 
A course map can be found on our website here.   Please note that the starting line for the Full Marathon and Marathon Relay participants is on the Andrews Street Bridge, the Half Marathon starting line will also be on the Andrews Street Bridge. The starting line is only a half mile from Frontier Field, which eliminates the need for shuttle buses to the start, which ensures everyone can park at Frontier Field.  The finish line will be on Morrie Silver Way in front of Frontier Field, so once you finish you will be back at Frontier Field conveniently close to your vehicle.

On Course Services 

Water will be available on the course at approximate 1 � - 2 mile intervals as well as at the Start/Finish area. Fluid electrolyte drink will also be available. On the Full course, it will be near miles 5, 7, 9 � , 11, 13 �, 16, 18, 21, 23 � and 24 �. On the Half course it will be near miles 5 �, 8, 10 � , 11 �. Clif Shot Gel will be available on the Full course at water stops located near miles 9 � & 18 and on the Half course near mile 7. Port-o-lets will be available at the Start/Finish area and at the relay exchange points. Bicycle patrol will be on the course on a continuous basis. Medical aid can be summoned by any of the bike patrols, road marshals, or at any water stop. The main Medical Tent will be located at the finish line. Shuttle Buses to Relay Points    

There will be no buses to the Starting Line. The Starting Line is on the Andrews Street Bridge and is less than a � mile walk from Frontier Field.

 

Buses to Relay Points: Click Here to find a detailed schedule for shuttle buses bringing participants to their starting points and for buses picking up and returning back to Frontier Field. We ask that all runners in the relay be patient in terms of waiting for the shuttle buses to return you to Frontier Field. The course must be navigated by the buses as safely as possible, so your patience will be greatly appreciated. Shuttle buses will be provided only to participants who are wearing their race numbers. No spectators will be allowed on these buses.    

 

Road Closures on Race Day

There will be some road closures & delays the morning of the race. The race begins at 7:30 am on Andrews Street in downtown Rochester, with the course closing at 2:30 pm. But please keep in mind that roads will be re-open as the final runner passes each checkpoint. We appreciate the efforts of the Police Departments and the Monroe County Sheriff Department, who along with volunteer road marshals will do their very best to lessen the impact to the community while keeping the runners and walkers out of harm's way.  For a detailed listing of road closures click here.     

 

Pace Leaders

Pace groups led by experienced pacers for a variety of times will be provided by Fleet Feet Sports. Run with experiences runners on a steady pace and meet your time goal. There is no need to sign up. Just look for the sign for the time you'd like to finish at the starting line. The Pacers will also be wearing Fleet Feet Sports Pace Leader shirts.

Course Time Limit 

There is a 7-hour course limit for the Full Marathon. If you are not keeping up to pace, you will be allowed to stay on the course, but may be asked to move to the side of the road or sidewalk, so traffic can resume. At this point, the course will no longer be supported by traffic control, Road Marshals, Water Stops or finish line. So please be sure to plan accordingly. 

  

Bag Drop

Drop bags delivered from the start line to the finish line will be available courtesy of Fleet Feet Sports. By following just a few simply directions you can help make the delivery of drop bags go smoothly.

  • You must use the supplied bag as your drop bag. Bags can be picked up at the race expo on Friday or Saturday as well as at the start line. We can not accept other bags or items not in bags for delivery.
  • At the start, you will bring your drop bag to the designated area.
  • All items that you wish to have delivered from the start to the finish must fit inside the drop bag.
  • Be sure to write your bib number on the front of the bag.
  • The Drop bags will be delivered back to Frontier Field immediately after the start of the race. The Drop Bag truck will be located in the parking lot across from the stage. Show your bib number and you'll be given your bag.
  • You will not be able to claim your bag if you don't have your bib!

Any bag not claimed by 2:00 pm on marathon day will be donated to charity.

  

Post Race Services

Participant post-race recovery services and refreshments will be located at Frontier Field in the food tent at the Post Race Party sponsored by G&G Revolution.  There will also be a Fleet Feet Sports Recovery Zone located in the finish line area.  The Fleet Feet Staff and local Massage Therapists and Chiropractors will be onsite. This area is FREE and a great opportunity for a post race massage. 

 
There will be a live band at the finish line and food available for spectators to purchase. The YMCA will also be providing a bounce house for family fun!  We will have "Spectator Bingo" on race day.  Bingo boards will be available at the Expo.  Please advise friends and family who will be coming out to cheer you on to think about bringing a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. 

After the race, the Genesee Brew House will be hosting an After Party.  More details are below in this newsletter. 

 

Awards Ceremony 

The awards ceremony will start at 11:00 am for the Half Marathon and at 12:00 noon for the Full Marathon & Marathon Relay. These are approximate times. The actual time of the ceremonies will be dependent on when we get the final results. Feel free to enjoy the live band, food, Fleet Feet Recovery Zone and other runner amenities while you watch your fellow competitors cross the finish line. Participant Photographs
Photos of participants crossing the finish line and various photos taken on the course will be taken by T Wellott Photography. Details on how to purchase photos will be available on the marathon website under the "Photos" link. Be sure to give us your email address when you pick up your race packet. That will enable you to look at and order your race day photos from T Wellott Photography.

COURSE PREVIEW RUN & BRUNCH    

A 6-mile Group Preview Run will be held  

Saturday, September 13th

 

The run will start from Fleet Feet Sports Rochester at the Armory at 7:00 am (doors open at 6:30 am). All participants must sign in upon arrival.  There will be copies of the route available.

 

There will be pace groups for the following times per mile:
8:00/8:30/9:00/9:30/10:00/10:30/
11:00/11:30/12:00/13:00/14:00/15:00   

After the preview run, enjoy a delicious brunch buffet at
