Our campaign year 2013-2014 is quickly coming to close and has seen many changes this year.  We started this newsletter to keep you, our donors and volunteers, up to date with what we have going on in our service areas.  We redesigned our website so it's easier to find info readers might be looking for.  In an effort to help volunteers find opportunities in their community we have also started a new Facebook Page.

Through all these various efforts our Kingman area campaign is strong and still moving forward.  With six weeks left I believe they will reach their goal and have more funding for the Partner Agencies in that area.  On the other side, Bullhead City/Laughlin area and Havasu/Parker area are falling short of where they need to be to continue at the level we've had in the past few years for our Partner Agencies and Program funding.  If you have not given yet, but were considering--it's not too late to support this campaign.  We've made it very easy for you to help by visiting our website or call 877-855-8318 (toll free) to pay by Credit Card over the phone or visit any one of our local offices and meet the people that make the magic happen in your community.  We believe in people helping people in the areas of Education, Income & Health and hope you will join us in supporting that cause.  If you have already given please share this newsletter with your friends and help advocate for the work we are doing in the community.

Impact_StoryBullead Impact Story
by Dana's Faith House

Kathy came to Diana's Faith House desperate and beside herself.  She was unjustly separated from her 3 children, mother and father by the landlord/property manager. Distraught, she shared her story with us upon her intake appointment.  She had moved to Bullhead City to help out her parents and care for her mother who was getting ready to have surgery.  After a time staying with her parents with her children, the Landlord made her leave, evicted her, because she had not been added to the lease.  Her parents had inadvertently forgotten to add her "name" onto the lease when they added the children.  It was a mistake, but the Landlord would not work with the family.  While Kathy was at our facility, she had a chance to be refreshed and comforted in the midst of her dilemma and feeling of desperation - the situation being out of her hands and separated from her family.  She was from out of state, no job, and felt the world was against her.  She was able to work through those issues by being provided shelter,  looking for side work, being productive and involved in the classes, and working on the situation that left her homeless in the first place.  After a few weeks, the family contacted the corporate offices of the apartment complex she had been staying at with her children and parents.  The corporate office, upon hearing the story, released the landlord/property manager of her duties and Kathy returned to her parent's apartment and was reunited in time to help her parents through a very tough period.

Special Olympics Arizona - Flame Run

"Flame of Hope" Torch Run, a program started in 1981 - took place in Bullhead City in the early hours of April 28th, traveling from Davis Camp on the Colorado River by kayak, arriving mid-morning at Community Park where Police Chief Brian Williamson and his daughter Kaylynn carried the torch approximately 2 miles along Highway 95 to relay hand off to the next officer as the Flame of Hope continued on its journey towards Grand Canyon University in Phoenix to light the Summer State Games on Thursday May 1st.

At the Torch Reception Fundraiser, River Cities United Way Volunteer Bernila Estrada and Area Manager Mary Schramm both were on hand providing games and entertainment for the children. All proceeds benefited Partner Agency, "Special Olympics Arizona". River Cities United Way is looking forward to next year's event!

Give.
The workplace campaign is the easiest and most powerful way to invest in our communities. You can direct your contribution to one of the action areas of Education, Income and Health,or choose all three. As always, we will also process a restricted contribution to qualified 501(c)(3) organizations.

Advocate.
You can make change happen with your voice. Tell your friends. Write a letter to the editor. United Way needs people who are passionate about their communities to make some noise. Access our website so you can stay on in the know about advocacy opportunities.

Volunteer.
You can advance the common good of your community when you volunteer.  Join hands; lend your muscle. Give an hour; give a Saturday. Think of WE before ME. Reach out a hand to one and influence the condition of all. Contact us for volunteer opportunities.
