Over the last couple of years, the demand for wood pellets has drastically increased, making it difficult for wood pellet manufacturers to keep up the supply. Some of the reasons for the recent increase in demand include:

  • Thousands of homeowners in the Northeast and throughout the U.S. have purchased wood pellet burning stoves to replace or supplement oil and gas furnaces, as their heating source.1

  • People burned more fuel due to the extremely cold, extra long 2013-2014 winter season.1

  • Power plants generating electricity have been converting from coal to wood pellet generation in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.2

  • Exports of wood pellets from the U.S. to Europe are on the rise, having doubled in 2013 from 2012.3
