First Edition of our Coastal Newsletter
A few weeks ago, many of you responded positively to a local survey from our team, regarding the creation of a single-source, objective and informative newsletter and archive, similar to the very popular ones we know in Cuenca (Gringo Tree.com for example).

As we move ahead with our plans for that, our team would like to introduce you to just a taste of some of the items we intend to bring in the Ruta del Sol South Newsletter.  You are our target audience - those who have already settled along the beautiful coastal regions of Ecuador from the Santa Elena Peninsula to Orlon, or have come for stays of any kind.

But we will also direct ourselves to those in other regions of the world: folks in Canada, USA, Europe, who are considering making a new life for themselves here. As a reflection of your voices, we will convey how to manage all the aspects of expatriation and life along the Pacific beaches. We'll flavor our communication with the uniqueness of beach life, and how you have settled into the communities springing up all along the shores. We invite you to send us articles or posts of interest, ideas or other content you'd like to see or share. We will have a local news page, as well as recommendations, buy/sell posts and eventually business directories in our full version to come.

Until we fully launch with all features and functions in early summer, we'll release several of these simple newsletters to keep you in touch - with articles, news, events - and our progress.

If you would like to pre-subscribe to our free newsletter, please take a moment to do so in the link provided below.  Or send us your name via email to: Coastal.Newsletter.Team@gmail.com.  And feel free to forward to friends and family!

Or...if you wish us to take your name off our mailing list at this point, please let us know that too by 'unsubscribing' or replying to this email.

Thanks to our staff of volunteers...you are the Best!

We hope you enjoy our First Edition!

Estate Planning in Ecuador
Category: Expat Life

Written and submitted by Cathy Yearout

Ecuadorian law states that when someone dies in Ecuador, that person's property is split 50/50 between the person's spouse and their children. If the property is registered in both spouse's names, the surviving spouse would inherit 75% (their 50% share and half of the remaining 50%). The remaining 25% would go to any surviving children. This applies to both real estate and bank accounts. Read more

Expats Help Children at Chanduy School

Each new school year can be financially draining for Ecuadorian families that have school aged children. This year, children attending the Chanduy School in Santa Elena province will have a little extra help.
