A World Cup Star!

Children's Future student Vuth* (featured in our February newsletter) was selected as one of six students in the entire country to join a Cambodian youth delegation at the World Cup in Brazil. The delegates were chosen based on their leadership skills, eagerness to learn about new culture, and their willingness to give back what they learn to the their community. We hope to see Vuth playing at World Cup 2018! Until then, we know he'll return to Battambang as a star and role model for his peers. Congrats Vuth!

A Future Lawyer

Sochin will begin university in the fall - she aspires to become a lawyer and to help resource poor families like her own.

* This story is being shared in its entirety without name change because

that is what Sochin (20 years old) wanted.

Sochin's childhood was like that of many Cambodian girls whose families live in severe poverty. Working to help provide for the family was simply a part of life for Sochin. At age 15 she joined a construction company to help feed her six younger siblings. Without food on the table, gaining an education seemed out of the question. When she was approached by a maid agency that promised profitable work in Malaysia, Sochin didn't hesitate and quickly signed up. Local authorities wasted no time and quickly falsified her birth certificate to say she was 18 so she could be swiftly transferred to Malaysia.

Cambodia faces an epidemic in human trafficking, especially of young girls like Sochin. Malaysia and Thailand are often destinations for human trafficking, where Cambodian girls travel in promise of profitable work, only to be subjected to sex trafficking, domestic servitude, and forced labor. Sochin was only days away from potentially becoming a victim of human trafficking before Children's Future stepped in to support her.

Sochin is now an enthusiastic and dedicated student who proudly teaches extra English classes to her younger peers. She is a brilliant young woman with high aspirations to give back to her country. She is approaching graduation from 12th grade and is determined to pursue a law degree to improve the situation of women and marginalized groups within Cambodia. But don't take our word for it, click here to listen to what Sochin has to say for herself.

Sochin is just one of the six Children's Future students who are graduating 12th grade this year, all of whom are determined to continue their education at the university level. With six Children's Future students already in university, we are in need of your support to make the students' dreams of attending university come true. Become a university student sponsor today by pledging $1500 a year or $125 per month. University student sponsors will be offered a unique opportunity to connect with their sponsored scholar to facilitate a long-term relationship.
