Commons Connections

April 2014

April is National Volunteer Month, which is an opportunity
to celebrate and honor the people investing their time and resources in communities through service. At Chicago Commons, we are proud to have such dedicated people that help us raise funds, plan events and serve as brand ambassadors of our organization.

This month, with the help of two wonderful volunteers, Daisy Martinez and Meredith Kaminski, we are launching a school supply drive. The school supply drive will benefit children from our early childhood development program, which serves more than 1,300 children.

We will collect items including books, back packs and art/school supplies through the spring and summer and distribute to families in August, just in time for school. Please click here for a full list of supplies and how to participate as a collection location.

Volunteering is a great way to strengthen your connection to the community, expand your social and professional network and help others. I hope you will join us to help change the lives of children and families in need.

Sincerely,

Commons Emerging Leadership Council

This spring, we launched the Chicago Commons Emerging Leadership Council (CELC), which is our new young professionals board. The official kick-off event to welcome and get to know the new CELC members was yesterday at Haymarket Pub & Brewery.

Thanks to all our new and prospective members for attending and to Stricklin & Associates for sponsoring the event! If you are interested or know someone interested in being a part of the CELC, please contact Sarah Frick at [email protected]

Commons Financial Literacy Training

Last week

Chicago Commons hosted a financial literacy training for all staff members. The training included presentations from Charter One and Chicago Commons staff on managing debt, opening and maintaining a checking account, managing the relations with the bank and ways to improve your credit score. This was the first in a series of trainings across Chicago Commons locations.

Commons in the Community
We want to send a big thanks to our associate board member Michele McKay Sparks, who coordinated a bagel sale at Sacred Heart School raising more than $600 for Chicago Commons programming. We are so appreciative of the students, staff and parents that helped with this initiative!
