Yoga with Jeanie                                  Gratitude, and April's Yoga Schedule
Gratitude
THE ART AND PRACTICE OF GRATITUDE
my 1st official blog.

I've been thinking a lot about gratitude lately...

We live in busy times, and for me an overly scheduled life can bring discontentment. In moments where I am feeling discontented, there is always somewhere else to be, something else to do - like relaxing on a tropical island, or exploring something new and spontaneous -anything that isn't what is actually happening. These distractions make it hard to be present. And as yoga practitioners we know that being present is something worth pursuing.

Whatever the reason is we entertain these distractions doesn't matter, because reality doesn't give us access to unlimited funds to take vacation whenever we want. In my fantasy life, I'd be visiting a new country every two months. But, in reality I'd probably get tired of that. Humans have an amazing capacity for discontentment. That is one reason why I have been practicing the art of gratitude. As soon as I pause, and think of all the amazing things I have in my life, all that I am grateful for, my state of mind immediately shifts. Discontentment can bring us down. Gratitude elevates us, and shifts our perspectives in the most profound way.

Being grateful is a practice, just like our yoga practice. The more you do it, the easier it gets and the more you reap the benefits of the practice... Try this: when you find yourself irritated, lonely, upset, restless, or stuck in a trying state of mind - pause for a moment, notice your breath, watch it rise and fall. How good does it feel to be alive? What a gift it is! If you have a home, food, clothing, and shoes then you are already doing quite well. The rest is just details! Let this recognition be a platform to stand on and find 100 more things you can be grateful for.

Once you bring a state of gratitude to your life everything is more vibrant. You make better decisions and you are more likely to do the things that make you feel good - like getting on your mat and practicing yoga, enjoying other exercise, appreciating nature, opening up to deeper relationships, and smiling more (which is infectious)! Also, whenever you are in a state of gratitude you are better at creating spontaneity - and the lack of spontaneity might have made you feel discontented in the first place. Plain and simple, the art of gratitude is an art worthy of pursuit!

May you find gratitude each moment, and especially in the most mundane places in your life!

Namaste,

Jeanie Gartin

TESTIMONIAL
"I found Jeanie after moving to Sonoma County from the East Coast three years ago.  One of my worries when relocating was finding a yoga teacher who could help me continue my practice.  Well, I really lucked out because I found Jeanie within weeks of my move, and she is by far the BEST teacher I have ever had the pleasure to work with!  I look forward to her class every single week.  As a mom of two young children, life gets really crazy sometimes.  However, after a class with Jeanie, something magical happens.  It's as if life is reset and everything falls back into place again.  I am calm and at peace and feel ready to face the world again.  This, in a nutshell, is what Jeanie can do for you.

Jeanie is gentle and kind and intuitively knows what each student needs to feel his/her best.  I have practiced with her in both private sessions and small class sessions, and  while pregnant with my second daughter.  If you are looking for a new yoga teacher, I urge you to give Jeanie a try.  You won't regret it!"  -Gail S.
