Recipients of University of Haifa Honorary Degrees, presented during the 42nd Board of Governors' Meeting in the Hecht Auditorium on the University's Mt. Carmel campus on May 27th, were: (from left)  Uri Lubrani (Israel), Prof. Celso Lafer (Brazil), Prof. Stefan Reif (Israel), Prof. Julia Kristeva (France), Chaim Topol (Israel), Dr. Ernst Strauss (Switzerland), Lady Irene Hatter (England), and Frederik Willem de Klerk (South Africa).   Read more about each honoree here. 
A First in Israel - 
A PhD in Nursing

Cheryl Spencer Department of Nursing Launches First  
Nursing Doctoral Program 
 
The Cheryl Spencer Department of Nursing at the University of Haifa has just opened a new Nursing Doctoral Program, the first of its kind in nursing studies in Israel. It aims to strengthen the leadership of the nursing profession within the health system, while advancing nursing as a specific professional field.

Other new services and initiatives at the Spencer Department of Nursing include:
Dr. Oleg Zaslovsky of the Spencer Nursing Department won the 2014 Alon Award.

Pioneering Ruderman Program for American Jewish Studies Class Visits the Big Apple

The 25 students in the first class at the new Ruderman Program for American Jewish Studies at the University of Haifa were in New York City for ten-days in late June to get an up-close look at the largest Jewish community outside Israel. "The focus of this course is American Jewry," said Professor Gur Alroey, bottom left, Chair of the School of History and Program Director, "a group that stands in its own right, independent of Israel."                   Read more about the visit here.

Sherri Morr Is New ASUH
West Coast Director


Sherri Morr, an experienced nonprofit fundraiser and trainer, 

has joined the American Society of the University of Haifa as Director, West Coast Region.  

 

She succeeds Naomi Western who, after two years of  

distinguished service in the position, has decided to return to Israel with her young family.  

 

Sherri was the Western Director of the Jewish National Fund for 12 years and most recently was a fundraising consultant providing developing campaigns and providing staff coaching for the American Technion Society, Jewish Women's Theater and Jewish World Watch, among others.  Read more about Sherri here
