Glycans are important components of glycoproteins, including immunoglobulins and glycoproteins on the surface of cells of the immune system. These sugar components are not only important structural features, but in many instances modulate or mediate a wide variety of functions in physiological as well as pathophysiological situations.

The CCTS TIERS (Training Interdisciplinary and Emerging Research Scholars) meetings strive to address the career development needs of junior faculty, postdoctoral trainees, fellows and preprofessional students. Topics are presented in a relaxed environment structured to promote collaborative learning and problem solving and to strengthen relationships in an effort to broaden the potential of each researcher both individually and collectively. The TIERS meetings take place in the Pittman Center for Advanced Medical Studies (PCAMS) located at 1924 7th Ave South (across from the School of Dentistry).

Inviting Project Applications to Include in Roybal Center P30 Renewal
Edward R. Roybal Center for Translational Research in Aging and Mobility
Deadline for Applications: 5pm on Monday, December 2, 2013
The Edward R. Roybal Center for Translational Research in Aging at UAB is inviting pilot project applications from UAB faculty to include in its upcoming competing renewal P30 application to the National Institute on Aging. The mission of the Center is to carry out research that will ultimately enhance the health and well-being of older adults. Applications should propose studies whose long-range goal is to apply the theories, paradigms, and methodology of the social and behavioral sciences to address mechanisms of behavior change interventions. Since the theme of UAB's Roybal Center is aging and mobility broadly construed, pilot project applications should be consistent with this theme. Priority will be given to proposals that address issues related to decision-making, cognition, resilience, self-control, motivation, and positive health behaviors.
Please see the attached pdf that gives detailed guidance for application preparation and submission. Questions should be directed to Angela McKinney at AngelaMcKinney@uab.edu or phone (205) 325-8637 (this number is in the Callahan Eye Hospital and outside the UAB phone system).
