Heather Dallara Chapter President

June marks the end of the 2013-2014 Program Year but before we officially wrap up the year we have a few things left to do.

  • Our final seminar is June 20, 2014. See the sidebar to the left. Registration is now open!
  • The deadline for applications to NCMA's Contract Management Leadership Development Program is June 30, 2014. We would love to have the Battlefield-Dulles Chapter represented in the new class. If you have any questions about the program, please contact Jessica Grant or me, who are both previous CMLDP students.

Congratulations the winners of our World Congress contest, Chris Cecka and Jeff McGowan. We'd also like to recognize Anne Flamm and Jessica Schick who attended all the chapter seminars through May.

I am happy to announce the results of the 2014-2015 Executive Council election:

Secretary - Susan Crummett

Treasurer - Michael Shingledecker

Finally, I'd like to thank each of you, as well as the 2013-2014 Executive Council, for helping to make this an incredibly successful year. Most importantly, I'd like to thank our volunteers including Mary Hagan, Keith Dill, Sue Egloff, Laura Walsh-Steinman, Elizabeth Robertson, and Kevin Burk for the support they've given to the chapter. It has truly been my pleasure to represent the Battlefield-Dulles Chapter as President and I wish all of you a safe and wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you all in September.

ALERT: Chapter Name Change

The NCMA Battlefield-Dulles Chapter Executive Council passed a resolution requesting the NCMA Board of Directors to approve a name change of our chapter. It is anticipated the Board will vote on this request at their July meeting.

What's the proposed new name?

After considering several options, the Executive Council chose the NCMA Dulles Corridor Chapter.

Why change the name?

When the chapter was formed, the emphasis was on the NCMA members in the Manassas area of Prince William County. Since then, NCMA's membership demographics in our territory have changed which has directly impacted our chapter's demographics.

How have the demographics changed?

NCMA membership in the "Dulles Corridor," generally known

Our Territory (click to enlarge)

as the area surrounding Route 28 in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties, has surpassed the Manassas area. In fact, 83.5% of NCMA members in our designated territory are in the Dulles Corridor. This includes Centreville, Chantilly, Herndon, and Reston in Fairfax; and Ashburn, Leesburg, and Sterling in Loudoun. Less than 15% are in the Manassas area.

How does this affect me?

There is no direct impact to current chapter members! It is hoped that changing the chapter's name will raise awareness among non-chapter members in our territory that we are here to enhance their professional performance, career, and accomplishments. The name should also help us when new NCMA members select a chapter since "Dulles Corridor" is more recognizable from a geographic standpoint than "Battlefield-Dulles."

If you have any questions about the name change or would further information about our analysis please talk to any of the chapter officers or email us at [email protected]

SpotlightSpotlight On: Planning for Next Year

While the chapter takes time off from seminars and other events, your Executive Council is still hard at work planning for the 2014-2015 Program Year. Some of the items we will work on include:

  • Determining topics for the monthly seminars
  • Developing and passing a budget
  • Planning certification training classes
  • Scheduling an NES
  • Discussing other ideas for chapter events

Submit your idea or suggestions to [email protected].
