Voluntary Steward Deadline for Saskatchewan Approaching - June 1, 2014

Multi-Material Stewardship Western (MMSW) has committed to posting an up-to-date list of confirmed Voluntary Stewards who will be reporting and paying fees on their packaging and paper that they supply into the Saskatchewan residential waste stream to assist retailers with their reporting.

We would therefore like to ensure that non-resident businesses supplying packaging and paper to Saskatchewan are aware of the opportunity to register as a Voluntary Steward with MMSW before June 1^st. Bearing in mind that the deadline falls on a Sunday, signed Membership Agreements will be accepted until 5:00pm EST on Monday, June 2, 2014.

Please note we can only include you on the list if a valid Membership Agreement for the MMSW program has been submitted by this deadline. If you have not already submitted a copy, please download it here and submit it via the WeRecycle portal.

Below are some qualifications of residency in Saskatchewan. If you do not qualify as a resident steward but provide packaging and paper to Saskatchewan householders, you would be eligible to become a Voluntary Steward.

• Residency means that an organization or company has a permanent establishment in Saskatchewan.
• A permanent establishment can include an office, a workshop, a factory, a warehouse or some other type of fixed place of business such as an employee's home.
• It can also include having a salary-based sales representative in that province who is able to contract (sign) on the organization's behalf.

How does this Apply to my Business?

If your business has a permanent establishment in Saskatchewan and you are a brand owner, franchisor or first importer of packaged goods and/or paper sold to Saskatchewan householders then you are likely an obligated business under the Saskatchewan Recycling Regulation.

If your business is located outside of Saskatchewan but supplies packaged goods and/or paper to Saskatchewan residents, you can take responsibility for your packaging and/or paper by electing to be a voluntary steward.
