CRA Needs Your Talents and Skills...

Yeah, we're talking to you. You know you have skills, and the CRA has many committees where you can flaunt those talents. As a CRA member, you can help shape the success and direction of the organization whether you have a little time to give or want to go all in.

We are recruiting members for the following committees:

Conference: Planning is already underway for our 25th Annual Conference.  The Conference Planning Committee is recruiting volunteers to help with the program and speakers, sponsors and exhibitors, entertainment, awards, auction, golf tournament and many other aspects that go into planning the largest recycling trade show in the Southeast.

Education and Outreach: Are you a communications dynamo, have an eye for good design, or enjoy coordinating gatherings of like-minded folks? Sign up to work with the E&O Committee, who will be working on Regional Networking Meetings, a new CRA website and other ways to promote recycling in the Carolinas.

Membership: Are you the type of person that can't go anywhere without seeing someone you know, or maybe the type of person that can make friends anywhere? Well come on Popular People, the Membership Committee needs your expertise to keep our family of members growing.

Board Development Committee: Calling all aspiring policy writers and procedure makers. The BDC works diligently to ensure proper structures are put into place for the organization to keep it strong, steady and protected.

Contact Jenn Cooper at (877) 972-0007 or [email protected] if you would like more information or want to get involved on any of these committees.

Pratt Opens New Recycling Facility in Rock Hill, SC

Pratt Industries has officially opened its newest recycling facility in Rock Hill, SC. Myles Cohen, President of Pratt Recycling, said the new plant - the company's 15th recycling center in the USA - would service the recycling needs of businesses, cities and counties within a 100 mile radius and bring both economic and environmental benefits to the area.

"This is not only good for local businesses and residents but also for the environment because it will take trucks off the road, saving fuel and reducing emissions, while also creating jobs in South Carolina."

Upcoming Webinars

Expanding Opportunities in Film Collection
Tuesday, August 19th, 2014 1:00 - 2:00 pm EDT - Register

More than half of the film collected for recycling in the U.S. was exported in 2012. With the implementation of tighter restrictions on the import of scrap plastic into China, domestic markets want to let recyclers know that strong demand remains-provided the quality is good. The key is to know your plastic film markets and to collect for value. Learn about the depth in demand for scrap plastic film and the tools available on plasticfilmrecycling.org to support the collection of high quality material. Speakers include Nina Bellucci Butler, Moore Recycling Associates; Dave Heglas, Trex; and Jim Feeney, Wisconsin Film & Bag.

Promoting Recycling Behavior: What Works

Wednesday, August 20, 2014  2:00pm - 3:15pm - Register

The effectiveness of any recycling program hinges on understanding human behavior, and in many cases, asking individuals to change their behaviors. This webinar will summarize the findings from behavioral science with regard to effective strategies for encouraging people to recycle, including recommendations for program design and marketing. The webinar will also share results from a survey conducted in partnership with The George Washington University regarding participants' feedback on bin shape, color and signage.
