Dunbar Scotch Ale

Dunbar was our favorite stop on a trip to Scotland in 1989. This small seaside town south of Edinburg is also home to the Bellhaven Brewery and some of the best ales in Scotland. We brewed a limited amount of our scotch ale last November to age and mellow the prodigious quantity of Scottish 2-row barley malt and a touch of German melanoid malt. The result is a smooth caramel finish with imported English fuggle hops playing a supporting role. OG: 1079, 8.4% ABV IBU 28, Color: 10.

Brunhilde Dubbel
This Belgian brown ale is a complex mix of flavors: cocoa, dark fruit, malt, medium hop and alcohol. Low phenolics. Aged four months. OG: 1074; ABV: 8.4%; IBU 29; Color: 9

Spring Bock Fest April 19!

Worth Brewing Company in Northwood will tap the spring season April 19 with its annual Spring Bock Fest. Beer is the boss of this party, but we will have homemade food, music and fun all day in the Tap Room and biergarten. Some highlights:

Beer Specials: Northwood's source for fresh beer since 2007, WBC will tap a limited keg of Rathaus Rachbier. The grain for this Oktoberfest-style smoked beer is dried over a beechwood fire for a distinctive flavor. Worth Brewing also has brewed a double bock lager, which will be tapped earlier during Spring Bock Fest week beginning on Wednesday, April 16.

Our imported fest beer will be a rare treat, Ayinger Maifest, from Aying, Germany. We've reserved two of only 20 kegs available in the Iowa market.

Food specials
: Local bratwurst, red cabbage and cinnamon candied almonds are available from noon to closing at 11 p.m.

Live music: Big Ben and the Brians Concertina band will perform late afternoon into evening. They have become favorites at past bock fests and Northwood's Oktoberfest.

Events: Bock fire poking in the biergarten after 5 p.m. and special drawing give aways all day.

Festivities run from noon to 11 p.m.--get out your dirndls and lederhosen!
