RU Price School of Education provides training for Cherokee County schools
In collaboration with the Cherokee County School District (CCSD), Reinhardt University provided training earlier this month for principals and teachers who are hosting yearlong student teachers.Training focused on edTPA, a new required assessment designed to assess readiness for teaching, as well as strategies for implementing co-teaching models.
Price School of Education faculty, Dr. Shawn Brown, Dr. Pam Colvin, and Dr. Nancy Marsh under the leadership of Price School Dean, Dr. Cynthia Kiernan, provided the seminar to 75 teachers and administrators. The purpose of the training session was to provide guidance to CCSD on how to best support RU clinical residents, and provide training for CCSD teachers on the ways in which Reinhardt University students incorporate strategies for differentiating instruction in K-12 classrooms.

A Lady of Many Firsts:

"First woman" or "first female" are often used when referring to Reinhardt's 2014 Distinguished Alumna. First woman superintendent of the Cherokee County School District. First female mayor of Waleska. First female Cherokee Chamber of Commerce board chair.
Being first hasn't bothered Cline; instead, it has inspired and motivated her and many of those around her.
A postage-paid card changed Marguerite Thigpen Cline's destiny. Her journey to Cherokee County began when a teacher asked her to pick up something on the floor. The text caught her eye: "If you want to know more about Reinhardt College, write your name and address here." If a stamp was needed she wasn't going to mail it, but it was postage paid, so she returned it.

Reinhardt student organization, ADSA, supports Afrika Reads
Under the leadership of Nigeria native, RU director of academic support, and assistant professor of Education, Adetunji "Tunji" A. Adesesan, the African Descendants Student Association (ADSA) has done it again!
Last year they collected and donated more than 2,500 books to Afrika Reads, which they intend
to donate to Edwin Clark University, Nigeria (South), Ondo State University, Nigeria (South), and Edwin Clark University, Nigeria (East). In addition, last year the association donated 500 children books to three local elementary schools, Good News International school, Asaba, Nigeria (East), as well as 200 books to a special school for children with cerebral palsy in Nigeria.
The project began four years ago with a donation to Ondo State University in Nigeria. According to OSU, Reinhardt was the first college outside their nation to donate books and is still its largest donor with over 7,000 books donated.
The books being sent to Edwin Clark university leave for Nigeria at the end of January. However, book collections continue. For more information on how to donate, please contact Adesesan at (770) 720-5567 or by email to [email protected].

Baseball Faces Challenging 2016 Slate
Reinhardt University's baseball team faces a tough 2016 schedule when the Eagles square off against four teams that are ranked the NAIA Preseason Top 25.
The schedule is highlighted by a pair of home-and-home series against preseason No. 3 Faulkner and No. 8 Georgia Gwinnett. Last year, when Faulkner was the top-ranked team in the country, the Eagles earned a win in Waleska by a 7-1 score.
A pair of Reinhardt's Appalachian Athletic Conference foes are also featured in the NAIA's preseason poll. Tennessee Wesleyan is No. 12, while Bryan is No. 23 in the rankings.
