MIS Chooses Architect for New School Plan

MIS is thrilled to announce its project architect, Lake|Flato out of San Antonio, TX.   We considered several, very qualified firms both locally and far and wide, but Lake|Flato easily rose to the top of the list for MIS based on their experience and responsiveness to meeting our project's goals.

Consider this: the firm has a staff of 89 including 31 registered architects, 42 LEED accredited professionals, and a sustainability manager and coordinator.  Lake|Flato is an innovative and well-respected firm who has worked with dozens of independent schools.

MIS offers a safe and nurturing environment that promotes freedom of expression and a culture of collaboration in a multiage setting.

MIS students often demonstrate the IB Learner Profile outside of the classroom.  Meet Stella, 3rd grade: Together with a friend, she decided to take action in her community by creating the “Warm Spirit Project.”  They wanted to help provide warm, winter clothes and summer clothes to kids in need.  The students worked with their local church, which donated $300 to get the project going. Stella contacted Lowell School to see if they needed the donations.  The school happily accepted the donations for their resource closet, which was running very low on supplies and provided an additional list of needs.  One Missoula boy, for instance, said what he needed most was another pair of pants so he would have a clean pair to wear to school.

    ASSESSMENT at MIS:

Come learn more about  how, why, and when MIS teachers assess students and the tools they use.  Assessment is an integral part of the planning, teaching and learning process.  It informs each stage of the learning cycle and leads to effective planning, teaching and learning.

Julie Lennox, MIS Head of School, invites all parents to join in casual conversation (with coffee, of course) several times throughout the school year. The talks are centered around a theme, but open-ended conversation  is encouraged.

Middle School Students Have a Blast at the "Snow Ball"
Chocolate fondue, disco lights, and limbo, oh my!
MIS middle school advisories planned the first annual "Snow Ball" social and dance last Friday.  These students enjoyed spending time together just for fun, eating, dancing, and planning the party from start to finish.  This was not your typical, awkward middle school dance, but a wild celebration of these hardworking students.
More excitement in middle school with the arrival of a set of new Chromebooks, purchased thanks to donations to MIS in the fall.
Last week's assembly in multiage familias involved telling "campfire stories" with MIS preschool students who are currently studying Montana's wildlife.
