Vision of Former KMA President Helped Launch
Community Connector Leadership Program

When he was President of the Kentucky Medical Association in 2013-14, Fred Williams, Jr, MD, wanted to do something that would help physicians connect with KMA and with their communities.
 
"The concept is to get docs and people in the community together," Dr. Williams, an endocrinologist in Louisville, said.
 
As Williams talked with KMA staff, the idea grew into the KMA Community Connector Leadership Program.

Lexington Physician to Discuss Safe Practice of Opioid Prescribing at Physicians' Day at the Capitol
 
Danesh Mazloomdoost, MD, believes there is a great deal of misunderstanding around pain medications. He thinks physicians as a whole are woefully unprepared for the problems that result from mismanaged pain and opiate overreliance. 

Dr. Mazloomdoost will discuss the safe practice of opioid prescribing from 2:10 p.m. to 4:15 p.m., Feb. 10, during the KMA 2016 Physicians' Day at the Capitol at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History. Click here to register.

R. Brent Wright, MD, KMA Vice President and associate dean for rural health innovation, UofL School of Medicine, served as co-investigator of a multimillion-dollar grant from the Department of Health and Human Services to create the six-county Kentucky Rural & Underserved Geriatric Interprofessional Education Program.   click here

Thomas K. Slabaugh, Jr, MD,
a Lexington urologist, was installed as President of the Lexington Medical Society January 19 during LMS's General Meeting held at the University of Kentucky's Hilary J. Boone Center. click here
KMA Member Named to Clark Memorial Hospital Board

Klaus M. Boel, MD, FAAP, was named an advisory member to Clark Memorial Hospital's board in Jeffersonville, Ind.  Dr. Boel practices at Jeffersonville Pediatrics and is the chairman of the Physician Advisory Board of Clark Physician Group, the employed physician group of Clark Memorial Hospital.
