Be Prepared For New Opportunities
By: Deborah Collier, RHIA; CHIA President

For personal growth, begin to say "yes" to some job related opportunities that you might otherwise say "no" because of not feeling comfortable with the option. For example, say yes to be a speaker, mentor, writer or volunteer. I think you will be surprised of the doors that will open and new acquaintances to network with for your personal and professional growth. Shonda Rhimes, one of the most admired and accomplished women in Hollywood, recently published a book entitled "Year of Yes: How to Dance it out Stand in the Sun and Be Your Own Person." Simply saying yes to opportunities and invitations that challenged a comfort zone transformed the author's life positively in many ways.

Grow HIM Member Knowledge and Value
By: Sharon Lewis, MBA, RHIA, CHPS, CPHQ, FAHIMA; CHIA CEO/Executive Director

CHIA has a wonderfully diversified membership. We represent a variety of work settings and serve our organizations in numerous roles. AHIMA's Career map describes a set of functions and opportunities available to health information management (HIM) professionals...

"As the garden grows, so does the gardener." Unknown. Every day is an opportunity to grow personally and professionally. As HIM professionals, we have many environments in which to experience growth. For CHIA to have the EDGE, let's work together to grow the garden and we will grow the gardener!
