Happy New Year! I hope that your 2016 is off to a great start, it certainly is for Lee District. Looking forward, I want to share every month a few things our office is working on from here on out and answer any big questions from our district. The biggest goals for 2016 are to continue our work on revitalization throughout Lee District as well as balancing our budget without undercutting our critical needs as we still continue to recover from the challenging economy.
On January 12, we had our very first Board meeting of the year and of my third term. I can't tell you how excited I am to continue to serve as your Lee District Supervisor. It was announced at the Board meeting that I will be chairing our Board's Budget and Legislative Committees! I'll also continue to co-chair the Revitalization Committee to continue focusing on all the great work we're doing in Springfield and on Route One. I'm looking forward to all that we'll accomplish together this year.
New Year Open House!

On Saturday, January 30 from 1-3 pm, I hope you'll join my staff and me to welcome the new year at the Franconia Governmental Center to celebrate our accomplishments and enjoy light refreshments prepared by the students of Edison High School's culinary academy.

As always, the Springfield Art Guild will have a display of artwork that is available for purchase.

Community News
  • Been to the Huntley Meadows Park lately? There's a new park manager! A big welcome to Karen Sheffield who's joining the FCPA just in time for the new year.

  • We'll be honoring Bob McLaren at our Open House. A Lee District resident long involved in environmental and land use activities, Bob is stepping down as the Lee District representative to the County's Environmental Quality Advisory Council after 9 years.
We're still thawing out from the massive snowfall Winter Storm Jonas brought us. Have any cool pictures you took during the storm? Share it with us on Facebook.
Know of anything exciting going on in Lee District? We're always interested in being involved with events going on in our community. Let us know.
Help Fight Hunger in Fairfax
12%-- or 33,000 children in Fairfax County live in households at risk of hunger.

Fairfax County is once again hosting "Stuff the Bus". It's a food pantry giving program that partners with nonprofits, grocery stores and other local partners to restock depleted shelves.

Stuff the Bus runs from Martin Luther King weekend through Presidents Day at 14 local grocery stores, including Giant, Shoppers Food, and Walmart.

Collected food is placed in a bus and delivered to those in need.

Winter Road Prep
As winter comes into full effect, road conditions and pot holes are always a big concern.

Just a reminder that roads are maintained by the state, not the county. We're happy to help you with any concerns but want you to be aware that if you have an issue with a pot hole or similar road complaint, you can report it directly to VDOT by clicking here
If you haven't gone to check out the new Dave & Buster's in our very own Springfield Town Center, you're missing out.

Dave & Busters is a 33,700-square-foot venue that includes more than 150 games, 30 big-screen TVs and a 360-degree sports bar. It's a great recreational activity for our kids and kids at heart.

We're so excited to have them join our community! It opened just before the New Year, making it the only active local outlet for the national chain.

Thank you for subscribing to my monthly e-newsletter. I hope these updates will keep you in the loop with some of the major events in our District.
