Are you a teacher or parent that would like to learn more about 
Garden Enhanced Nutrition Education?



Join us on Saturday February 8th! Use your existing school garden to enhance nutrition education for children and youth and promote the consumption of fruit and vegetables.

 

Develop tools and strategies for involving youth in gardening, food preparation, and taste-testing; building excitement around healthy eating and environmental science. Activities are drawn from curriculum for grades K-7, and are all available for free online. We will also explore how to plan for an edible harvest and touch on Garden to Cafeteria programs.

December and January
  
In January, Olivewood Gardens hosted fifth grade field trips from National School District and put on a Kids in the Kitchen event with the Junior League of San Diego!

In February...
  • Olivewood Gardens will host field trips for Greater San Diego County.
  • Visitors to the garden will include educators participating in our GENE class and the San Diego Horticultural Society.
  • Exchange students from Argentina will participate in two volunteer days. 
  • We'll begin our next session of Cooking for Salud! 
  • We'll round out the month by starting our last group of National School District third grade field trips for the 2013-2014 school year!

Season 2 of A Growing Passion with host Nan Sterman kicked off on January 23rd. Olivewood will be featured in the February 20th episode, "With Food and Justice for All"

Colorful Cauliflower Salad

Ingredients and Directions for Salad

1 cup orange caulfilower, chopped
1 cup green cauliflower, chopped
1 cup purple cauliflower, chopped
2 gala apple, diced
1 cup golden raisins
Sweet and Tangy Vinaigrette (see recipe below)


Combine all ingredients together with vinaigrette. Enjoy!

 

Ingredients and Directions for Sweet and Tangy Vinaigrette
� cup olive oil
2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar

� teaspoon shallots, minced
� teaspoon honey
� teaspoon dijon mustard
salt and pepper, to taste


Combine all ingredients in a jar, cover and shake. Enjoy with Cauliflower Salad.
