2016. Keep calm. Health is coming

A new year has come and we are discarding the wrappings and trappings of Christmas. As we wheel our new monster-trucks (which the city has so generously provided) out to the curb, we see among the crumpled shiny paper and the discarded decorations a few torn ribbons with the words... Be it resolved.

New Years' resolutions energizes us until the first week of work hits us, and the biting cold starts nipping at our buns, and the first bills start sneaking in.

But as we get to the curb with our new toy trucks and block the driveway and as we look around the hood to make sure we have the right garbage day, we can look at the rising sun .... actually no; look at the brightening clouds and say to ourselves, maybe, if I can just focus on one thing this year, one tee-nee wee-nee thing...

Today I share with you one tiny thing, one tee-nee target on which
we can focus, giving ourselves a whole year to let it soak into our system.

My health, Your health.

Here are five areas of health that we can start working on, just five, like the fingers on our hands, right there within our grasp.

1. Each day this year let us be thankful to the Creator for our health.  Whatever our condition, many are not as fortunate as we might be.  Let us thank the Creator every morning for our very life and our health. Ask Him for the presence of mind to always be grateful and thankful.

2. Commit to better nutrition.  Sometimes we might feel that we are in a good place with regards to our current physical condition, but remember, time marches on and the body clock ticks along; so if our health efforts are at a standstill then we may be going backwar ds- not improving.

Explore supplementation and natural remedies. Our food supply has become polluted and deficient in nutrients, so speaking to a wellness care practitioner may be an excellent idea. "Wellness care"? Understand the difference between the terms  health-care  and wellness-care. The health-care industry is really the sickness-care industry, and the system is not really invested in getting you healthier. It is what it is. It has its role, a very important one. But there are other professionals out there who might help you to stay longer in the health arena as against the waiting room. Would you rather take some supplements now rather than take the long list of pills later? I once heard the saying, "If you think education is expensive, try ignorance". We can say also, "If you think wellness is expensive, try sickness".

3. Eat better. I really am tempted now to put in here the shameless plug for Alima's, but I won't. Just make an effort to keep the right foods around you and you will eat right, and keep the bad stuff out of the house and you would really not be able to eat it.

Good stuff, bad stuff? You know it already, let's move on.

4. Keep moving. Research has shown that those of us who sit the most are about 50% more likely to die from cardiovascular diseases than those who sit the least, even if we exercise regularly. We are in a society where we are confined to desks at work, to chairs at school, and then we get home and confine ourselves to the couch engaging with various sizes of screens. Get up and walk. Exercise while watching TV. Get a stand-up computer desk. You are smart enough to figure out many ways to keep the body moving and the blood flowing.

5. Search for peace. Inner calm can work wonders for your health. Explore the spiritual part of your being. Look up. Look at the sky. Look past the brightening clouds. Look at the universe. How silent and peaceful it is; yet what power is exudes! a majestic expanse of calm magnificence and quiet dignity continuously moving in the shade of The Source; it is a galactic orchestra, a soul silently singing to its Beloved. We humans have become discordant with the song of the soul, no longer in sync with the cosmic symphony. But this year, this very year, we can re-enter this realm of Majesty, if we but try.

Be it resolved that 2016 will be a better year for my body and my soul.

Humour Me!
A Trini, a Bajan & a Jamaican...

There were three men from the Caribbean living together in London; a Trinidadian, a Barbadian and a Jamaican who were almost starving because they didn't have enough money to buy food.  One Friday night as they were out looking for some cheap food, they came across a posh restaurant and they came up with a plan.
The Trinidadian went in first. After being seated he ordered a three course meal with white wine. When he had finished the meal the waiter came by with the cheque.

"But I paid you!" the Trinidadian shouted.

The waiter was very confused as he could not remember being paid, but as he did not want to cause any trouble...he let the Trini leave.
Five minutes later the Barbadian walked into the restaurant and ordered a five course meal with red wine.  When he was finished eating, the waiter came by to collect the money for food.

"But I paid you!" The Bajan said angrily.

This time the manager came and had to calm down the Bajan, and as he did not want anything to upset the other customers he let the Bajan go.
Ten minutes later the Jamaican walked in, sat down, lit a cigarette, and ordered the most expensive meal on the menu plus two Red Stripe beers.  After he had finished, the waiter came to collect the money for the meal and before asking for it, the waiter said,

"Sir... I have been having a sort of problem all day and I can't understand it. Other people like you came in earlier and ate and they said that they paid me but I don't remember getting any money from them, so........

Before he could finish, the Jamaican chimed in dryly,

"Hear mi nah bass, that ah fi you problem...jus gimme mi change!"

Something to remember about Boundary Rights

There is an expression that good fences make good neighbours. One qualification. Only when the fence happens to be on the correct boundary line.

Here is something to remember when it comes to boundary lines:

There is a difference between a fence line and a deed line.  If you look at...
