EDC Students Receive Devex Membership

The Mortenson Center has partnered with Devex to provide Devex Career Accounts to current EDC students and recent EDC graduates at no charge to help launch or advance your career in international development.  Devex is a social enterprise and media platform for the global development community. Devex aims to connect and inform development, health, humanitarian, and sustainability professionals through news, business intelligence, and funding and career opportunities in international development. The features offered on Devex include a searchable database of over 600,000 professionals and a company directory listing more than 12,000 development companies. EDC students should have recently received an email from Devex informing them of their new account. Recent EDC graduates who are interested in obtaining a free account should contact the Mortenson Center staff at  [email protected].  At this time, accounts are limited to students officially enrolled in (or graduated from) the graduate certificate program in EDC.

Join us for an interesting talk by Steven Radelet on his stimulating new book  The Great Surge:The Ascent of the Developing World .  Radelet is the  Donald F. McHenry Chair in Global Human Development at Georgetown University and  Non-Resident Senior Fellow at Brookings Institution. His new book discusses progress in reducing poverty, improving health, increasing incomes, expanding health, reducing conflict, and encouraging democracy within the past two decades.  The Great Surge tells the story of this unprecedented progress and discusses  why it happened, and what it may portend for the future.

The WASH Symposium is an annual student-run event designed to provide a platform for sharing and expanding knowledge in the field of water, sanitation, and hygiene in the context of development. The symposium brings together leaders and WASH practitioners in social enterprises, the private sector, NGOs, academia, and development agencies. The event includes many speakers and panel discussions on relevant topics. Registration is free, but space is limited, so sign up now to guarantee yourself a spot.

This webinar will introduce the overall challenge of ensuring sustainable global food and water security in the wake of population and income increases, a changing climate and the growing demand for water resources, with a special focus on practical ways to improve water use and management in agricultural and food systems. 

Earthquake Engineering Research Institute Recruiting Event

The student chapter of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) is
 holding a recruiting event for new students. EERI is a student chapter of a national organization ( www.eeri.org) that focuses on seismic risk mitigation and community awareness. On campus, we seek to build a community of undergraduate, graduate, and faculty members who are interested in natural hazard risk research to promote collaboration and greater awareness of the different research and practice opportunities in this field. A Dialogue with Ambassador Chris Hill

Ambassador Christopher Hill, Dean of the University of Denver's  Josef Korbel School of International Studies ,  will speak at the  Posner Center  on January 27th to dialogue with guests about students and international field work, Korbel's academic programs and his experiences working in developing countries. In addition to overseeing the Josef Korbel School, Ambassador Hill is author of the book  Outpost: Life on the Frontlines of American Diplomacy: A Memoir , a monthly columnist for  Project Syndicate , and a highly sought public speaker and  voice in the media  on international affairs. Ambassador Hill is a former career diplomat, a four-time ambassador, nominated by three presidents, whose last post was as Ambassador to Iraq.

This event is free and open to the public but you must register.

NREL Tribal Energy Program Internship

A year round student internship is available in the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) Integrated Applications Center in Golden Colorado. The position would be part- to full time (30-40 hours per week) during the academic year with the potential for long-term coverage during school breaks (e.g., winter  holidays and summer). Plan International Health & WASH Program Intern

Plan International USA is seeking an Intern with interest and/or experience in health and/or WASH and/or ICT to participate in the management of grants from a range of donors; support technical networking (and working groups); and conduct research around and highlight Plan's capacity in key global health sectors, such as sexual and reproductive health.  The Intern will work across both teams. WASH Project Manager with Medair

Medair is looking for someone to plan, develop, monitor and evaluate the assigned WASH project(s). This involves assessing WASH needs, designing projects, writing proposals and initiating and effectively managing and reporting on the projects in line with the objectives, time frame and budget. Provide technical support, leadership and strategic direction, other important aspects of the role include meeting quality standards in WASH delivery, encouraging beneficiary participation, liaising with other stakeholders and managing and  training WASH staff. Odebrecht Award for Sustainable Development

Registration Opened: Jan 1, 2016

The Odebrecht Award for Sustainable Development is open to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree in Engineering (all areas), Architecture, Construction, Chemistry, and related STEM fields from accredited universities across the United States. A total of $70,000 in prizes will be awarded to the winning students, professors, and universities.

ALTEC Non-credit Language Classes

This spring learn a new language or brush up on an old one at ALTEC. Classes are non-credit and available to CU staff, faculty, graduate students, and their spouses, as well as the Boulder community. classes begin January 25 and meet two hours per week for eight weeks.
