 Ethan Myers Named Commended Student in National Merit Scholarship Competition
We are pleased to announce that Senior Ethan Myers earned a selection index of 208 on his 2013 PSAT, and he has been named a Commended Student!
Each year the CCS Juniors take the PSAT. This test both helps students to prepare for the SAT as well as possibly enters them into the National Merit Scholarship competition. Last year, over 1.5 million students took the 2013 PSAT nationwide. In April, the 50,000 highest scores were identified. Some 16,000 of those high performers were designated as Semifinalists on a state representational basis. The other 34,000 high performers are now being named Commended Students on the basis of a national selection index score of 201. (The highest score possible being a 240.)

4th Grader, Sonaha Thompson, Says "Thanks!"
Our local Fairfield Township firemen came to the Junior/Senior High Campus on September 23rd for a routine inspection only to be treated to a wonderful food spread! Sohana Thompson, representing Mr. Burch's 4B classroom, created a beautiful sign reading, "Thank you for making our school safe!" The firemen were both pleasantly surprised and thrilled with their feast, which included a specially prepared steak and potatoes for one of them. Keith Thompson prepares the yummy hot lunches at the Junior/Senior High, and prepared this lovely treat for our local firefighters. Mr. Thompson's family was invited to dine with them all at the fire house the following week. Thank you for representing CCS and our Lord in this way, Thompson family!

 "Clever Crazes" Winners
Clever Crazes is a fun, web-based learning program that is funded through local grants and where students can "play to win." The top scoring students for the week can win $10 weekly prizes and/or qualify our school to win up to $500 weekly as well. Additionally, students can earn brand new Nike gym shoes (quarterly) for actively participating in the "Step it Up" program that is also part of Clever Crazes. So far our Elementary has won the following prizes:

Cappies Critics Begin Their Work
Each school year, a group of students from CCS applies for and are chosen to participate as Cappies Critics. These students are then required to attend specialized critic training, attend several high school play/musical performances, write a critique of each, and "team vote" for specific drama-related categories (best play, best supporting actress, best costumes, etc.).
This year's CCS critic teams are: Abigail Ploetz, Lead Critic, Bernadette Beacham, Makenzie Theiss, Carissa Zaffiro, and Olivia Nell. The CCS Regional Team is Mia Yakimow, Andrea Strong, and Melody May.
The Cappies are a nationwide non-profit organization that helps promote, recognize, and reward high school theater. Each spring at the Cappies Gala, which takes place at The Aronoff Center, the awards are announced and given; it's like an Academy Awards for high school performances. CCS is proud to have been nominated for and won Cappies over the years in various categories.

 6th Grade Girls Basketball Team Remains Undefeated
The CCS Elementary 6th grade Girls' Basketball team moved to 7-0 this weekend, after beating the only other undefeated team in their CYO league. The girls are looking forward to finishing strong in their remaining three games with the goal of winning their CYO league. Coaches, Scott Heid and Tawanda Thacker, are greatly pleased with all the girls' progress. Most rewarding is watching all the girls improve as the season unfolds and that they continue to demonstrate Christian character on and off the court. Coach Heid also shared, "While it is a small way to show sportsmanship, our team provides snacks and drinks for the other team at the end of each game whether we win or lose. Other teams comment on how much they appreciate the goodwill gesture."

 Brady Roberts Heads to OSU for State Championship
The golf team has continued to improve, shooting its best round at the Sectionals. Although the team fell short of advancing to Districts by the slimmest margin, they rallied behind Brady Roberts and Owen Hallbach who advanced as individuals. Now, they rally alongside Brady as he prepares to represent the Cougar golf team at the State Finals for the first time in school history.
Brady Roberts returns this year as the #1 golfer on the team. Last year Brady was recognized as first-team All-City across Division II and III golf programs. He currently is averaging 40.22 for nine holes, which puts him in the top 40 in the city (across all divisions). Brady was Medalist in five matches and in the three Invitationals played he placed 2nd, 4th, and 5th. At the District tournament Brandy shot a 4-over 76 (36-40) to tie for 2nd Medalist, sufficient to qualify for the State Finals in October (North Star Golf Course in Sunbury, OH - Columbus area).
Coach Osborne is quick to highlight the entire golf team's cohesiveness and efforts, and wholeheartedly recognizes his Assistant Coach Schmitz as "invaluable."

 CCS Boy Singers Head to Australia
Along with Samson Kitenda (8th grade), mentioned in the last issue, Parker Wilhelm (8th grade), and Ryan Hamilton (7th grade) are also members of the Cincinnati Boychoir, and are headed to Sydney, Australia to perform.
