The Parsonage Inn

June, 2014

Summer is in full swing and it's wonderful to welcome back so many familiar faces, and also to welcome new guests - hopefully many will choose to come back again!

With so much to choose from, we have listed below a few of our favorite activities in Orleans over the summer.

The painting Orleans homes and beaches event in June was a super day.   We were thrilled that Susan Overstreet and Maryalice Eizenberg, two award winning local artists choose to paint the Inn.  Both artists regularly exhibit at Addison Art. Susan's painting is quirky and frivolous, while Maryalice 's is cozy and relaxing.  We think they capture the essence of the Inn perfectly.

The Alzheimer's Association's Longest day event on June 21 was a great success and The Parsonage donated $100 to Molly Waugh who raised an amazing $50,000 on the day.   Molly is Warren's daughter who owns Nauset Farms immediately opposite us.

Something for everyone

Fort Hill.  One of our favorite walks, just 10 minutes from us on the way to Eastham on route 6.  You look out on the marshes, to the right Nauset Beach and to the left Coast Guard Lighthouse.  There is a 45 minute walk around the area.

Sunset at Rock Harbor.  There really is nothing more spectacular, especially at low tide, the oranges and pinks reflecting off the sand and pools.

Summer season at the Academy Playhouse.  Just a 10 minute walk from us, summer performances include Cabaret and Les Miserables.  Dramatic stuff!! And a seat price that doesn't break the bank!

  Local Orleans Restaurants

Joe's Bar and Grille.  Just a 5 minute walk from us, new menu, fresh and casual.

Public House. New last year in town, a 5 minute drive, little more contemporary, fresh and fun.

Nauset Beach Club.  Classic Italian, cozy and romantic, just a 5 minute walk

Abba. Fusion of Israeli and Thai delights, in elegant surroundings.  A 5 minute drive.

Captain Linnells.  Beautiful and distinguished restaurant with fine dining menu.  Again a 5 minute drive.

Summer means fresh fruits, light and elegant dishes

Bircher Muesli with mangoes and kiwi, with honey drizzling.

6 ozs of rolled oats

6 ozs of unfiltered organic apple juice

1 Shredded granny smiths organic apple

10 ozs greek yogurt

Mix together and leave overnight in the fridge. Either spoon into dariole dishes or use an ice crean scoop to shape.  Slice mangoes, and kiwi (or any summer fruit), top with dried cranberries and dried fruits and drizzle with honey.   Serves 4.

A vacation is having nothing to

do and all day to do it in!

 Cape trivia

 What is a pullet?

Answer - see below

"Cozy", painted by Maryalice Eizenberg, from the recent Art day in Orleans.

Trivia answered

I wouldn't say we've become experts, but since we have started getting our wonderful fresh organic eggs from Lake Farm Gardens, we've learnt new terms.  A Pullet is a young hen, less than one year old!   Their eggs are typically smaller than that of the hens.
