April 2014
Greetings!

It finally feels like spring (most days). After a brutal winter, warmer weather and sunshine are making a comeback and along with it come ticks, fleas, mosquitoes and seasonal allergies. Ticks are the earliest problem.

Tick Season is Here!
Be sure to start your pet's tick and flea control this month. Studies have shown that the harsh winter did not deter ticks from attaching to our neighborhood wildlife and persisting in wooded and grassy areas. Each year our clients and their pets come in contact with ticks and are at risk from the diseases that they transmit. Protect yourself and your pet. Go to Dawn's blog for more. Dawn's Blog

Your Dog's 4DX Test
Each year when your dog comes into Suburban Animal Clinic for its annual exam and vaccines, we perform a 4DX blood test that checks for 4 common diseases carried by ticks and mosquitoes.

This screening test checks for canine heartworm disease carried by mosquitoes, as well as Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, and Ehrlichiosis - all transmitted by tick bites. We have diagnosed all of these diseases in our area and any dog is at risk. Remember, no protection is 100% effective and recommendations are to test your dog every year. Use tick and flea control products now through November and monthly heartworm protection year round.
