2013 CARES Documentation Due

Don't wait until the February 14 deadline
Do you already have all your documents together? Call to schedule an appointment with your CARES liaison as soon as possible. Give yourself the peace of mind of knowing your application is handled and complete BEFORE the deadline. Child Action, Inc. is open from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm. We encourage appointments, but they are not required. Allow yourself 10 minutes to have your packet reviewed when you bring it in.
Documents required vary by track, so consult your booklet or visit your track's pages here: CARES 2013 Resources
Copies are acceptable for everything except your Letter of Employment Verification. Please be sure it is an original. If you have questions about any documentation, don't hesitate to call - (916) 369-0191.
All documents must be received by Friday, February 14.

Gearing Up For 2014 CARES

2014 CARES Orientations will begin in March. Orientations will also be held at the check distribution events. Classes or workshops taken now may count toward your 2014 CARES requirement, and it is never too early to meet with a college counselor to get or update your education plan. Check our Calendar of Eventsregularly for times and locations of orientations and other opportunities. Please call (916) 369-0191 to register.

There are open spaces in American River College's ECE 422 and ECE 432 for Spring 2014. Both classes are at Natomas. Advanced Coordination and Supervision of Child Development Programs, ECE 422 (3 units) is scheduled for Wednesdays 6:00-9:05 p.m. The prerequisite is ECE 420 with a grade of "C" or better. Leadership in Diversity, ECE 432 (3 units) is scheduled for Mondays 6:00-9:05 p.m. at Natomas. The prerequisite is ECE 430 with a grade of "C" or better. Go to ARC's website to register. Northern California ECE Directors' 16th Annual Director Seminar
The 16th Annual Seminar for directors, site supervisors and large family child care owners will be held on March 7 and 8 at the Marconi Conference Center in Marin County. This opportunity is limited to professionals who supervise and evaluate other adults in ECE programs located within sponsoring college districts (Los Rios, Mendocino, Sierra, Woodland, and Yuba). It will feature Judith Burden as keynote speaker from Community Care Licensing Advocate Program and director mentors sharing ideas and best practices. CAEYC offers an on-line conversation with Janet Gonzalez-Mena
Starting Monday, January 27, Janet Gonzalez-Mena will be answering questions about diversity, and honoring differences in early care and education programs. Janet Gonzalez-Mena, MA, is a highly respected early childhood consultant, trainer, infant specialist, diversity specialist, and writer. She taught in the California community college system for more than thirty years and is currently part of the faculty for WestEd's Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC) and Beginning Together, a training program for adults working with children with special needs. An on-line Question & Answer session lasting five days and supported by NAEYC is available HERE Janet will accept any questions and would like to hear about your experiences with diversity!
